Here's a comparison shot of the two finished maquettes, standing side-by-side. Keep in mind the size ratio between them is not accurate to the comic... the male is actually about 1/3 the height of the female. I just had to work larger so that I could fit in more details.

Wow, those have to be some of the meanest looking bugs I have ever seen. Sure glad there more likely to be under my boot then face to face with me.
You did a awesome job with this, I love the way half of the sculpture exposes the muscle underneath it.
That is something I rarely see in modelling art like this and it really help you understand how these things would work and move if they really where alive. Adds a very cool level of realism to this.

Thanks so much! :D
Hehe, actually, these bugs are used as security sentinels in my graphic novel... the males stand about 6' tall. Soooo yeah, imagine them coming at you around eye-level.
I had to do an entire in-depth study of these creatures for my Animal Anatomy class here at SCAD, including both internal and external anatomy, instinctual behaviors... even down to their mating habits and death rituals. I put the entire study online for people to read, like an encyclopedic study (as if they actually existed):

If you've got some time and so desire, give it a quick read. There's a ton more info there, sketches, and close-ups of each individual maquette.
