Because of their wide range of uses, mana crystals are among some of the most sought after resources in Carminia, as well as countless other countries of the world. Though they're a renewable resource, collecting them is often a difficult, and sometimes dangerous, undertaking. This makes them as valuable as gold, and a brave enough crew can earn a fortune. Of course, between difficult terrain, terrible mana storms, bloodthirsty monsters, and other cutthroats looking for the same bounty, landing your airship directly on site may be too dangerous or attention grabbing. It's sometimes easier to send the crew down and bring the spoils back up to the ship. This has the unfortunate side effect that anything sent down is on their own in case of an emergency.
