I guess this protector could use a protector himself - or at least a helping paw.
Sad as this picture may be, it nicely illustrates what being a protector is all about: To keep someone or something safe - no matter the cost. Dedicated protectors tend to get hurt badly at some point - especially when things come to a head. Yet for all the scars such a protector may have beneath their fur, they grow tougher for every hit they take - in order to be able to fight back. Sheer determination and willpower allows such beings to carry on in situations where others may have succumbed to their injuries.
For this reason I am not overly worried about this bear - although I would like to take him someplace safe so that he can recover.
