This is my character from a Dungeons&Dragons campaign a friend of mine is running; her name is Tilly and she's a rough and tumble pirate-monk who won't take your bullshit, but will be the first to help you out of a tight spot.
She used to run with a pirate crew called the Tipsy Whisker; an all-ratfolk crew of pirates which was founded a very long time ago by a group of ratfolk monks who were kicked out of the monastery they trained at, and decided that perhaps a life of adventure on the high seas would suit them better. Most of the strong connections to monasteries have been lost to time, but the ship still teaches its crew monk combat techniques, so you basically have a pirate ship full of rats that know martial arts.
Honestly, they're perfectly harmless, despite calling themselves 'dangerous pirates'. They're just out to have a fun adventure, and while they don't have the morals of an upstanding citizen, they're more likely to help someone in trouble than hurt them.
Tilly herself comes from a family of alpaca farmers, and joined one of her older brothers on the Tipsy Whisker when she was old enough to do so. She quickly became friends with a new recruit a couple months her senior named Minnie, and learned a lot of the ins and outs of ship life from her.
Tilly was really fond of the older ratfolk pirate, but didn't realize the extent of her feelings until Minnie disappeared one day with no trace, and had seemingly been wiped clean from every shipmate's memory but her own. She's now departed from the Tipsy Whisker and set out on her own, hoping to find any sort of lead on what happened to Minnie, and perhaps be able to find her and confess her feelings.
We've only played one or two games so far in this campaign, but I'm really excited to see what direction it goes in! I've left Minnie's fate up to my DM, so I have no clue how Tilly's personal arc is going to pan out until it happens, heh.
