Alex stole a chicken today,
in the shade he with it layed.
Till he gnawed through chickens bones,
made the chicken awfull tones.
Dear chicken. Life sucks. The lion wins...

Well, the only thing I have found is "Photos containing gore, wounds, scars, death or acts of violence are not permitted, as well as images containing or alluding to illegal activities."
I don't think this can be considered as gore, there are no wounds or scars and both animals are alive... I guess the explanation of rules still won't be left up on me, thought, and if I get a warning, I will withdraw the picture, despite the fact, that I consider it nonsense.

I don't eat meat.
And understanding that predators have to hunt to get food doesn't mean it's not sadistic to enjoy watching the prey suffer and die.
Lions have to kill rival males' cubs to get the females back in heat. Why not post a picture of a baby lion being killed and put a cutesy little rhyme to it?

Well, I take pictures of animals behavior. I haven't gave him the chicken, nor did anyone else. The chicken was stupid enough to wander into his enclosure. He did hunt it. He succeed. I don't see any reason, why to not take pictures of it. National geographic makes movies about wildlife... Do you write them letters aswell, asking them why, oh god, are they so cruel and take hunting and killing the prey on tape ?
Have you ever heard about behavioral etology and the fact, that animals, held in ZOO or in other enclosures need to have the ability to use their instincts or they could alternete them into pathological patters of behavior ? Most likely no.
I would want to see you, how you would come to the lion to stop it trying to chase the chicken, with rolled papers, hitting it with it, chanting "bad kitty".
Then again, as I said, I am interested in animals behavior, it's study, expression etc. I was studying it at the university and sorry, the animal was not harmed or killed by a human... It was killed by a predator. Yes, I did take photos of the chase and of him eating. I don't see anything wrong about it.
As it was his first kill, and he was formerly raised in a circus and not by his mum, he wasn't really able to kill the chicken right after he got it. Cruel ? Yes. But what is more cruel here ? The fact the chicken was diing slowly, or that the lion didn't really know what to do ? And would you hop over to him take him his food and kill it on your own ? I got bitten by him once into the butt, when he was much younger... I wouldn't want to experience that again.
The comment, which drives you crazy is meant to ease the situation a little. I could write a long paragraph describing the cruel death and let the others feel uncomfortable about the image. I thought this would make it more "diggestable". I do eat meat and I think that killing for food is not wrong. If this attitude makes you mad, I have to ask you to not look at this picture anymore. I tolerate others who decided to live without meat, in some cases I think they are right, in some they are wrong. But I don't say them what they should do or feel. I am sorry that the rhyme made you feel bad.
Besides... this lion had problems with front paws - they were partially paralyzed, so the chicken had a chance. This was his first and most likely the last kill, as he died of the paralyses, after it hit his diggestive system. He himself had no chance, but we all were hoping he will get better :/

Where did I say that he shouldn't be eating a chicken? You're going off for paragraphs on an argument I never made, and ignoring almost all of what I have said.
I repeat - would it be appropriate if you posted cub killing pictures here?
It's natural. It's a brutal necessity of nature. It's a great triumph for the lion, too - showing that he has conquered and is taken over.
Yet, something tells me you wouldn't be posting cub eating here. Nor would you be thinking it's funny how the cub squeals in pain, and saying 'life sucks, too bad, little lion!' Or am I incorrect? Would you be comfortable posting lion infanticide and laughing about it to "ease the situation a little?"

Well, believe me I wasn't laughing, nor was I thinking it is funny to look or take pictures of him, eating the chicken alive. The chicken was silent and the only sounds were the crushing of it's bones. I would take pictures of a lion tearing a cub appart. As I was taking pictures of a wolf pup, who waddled from the den, desperately searching for food and whining, while all the others occupied the teats of his mother, drinking milk. If you capture reality, it doesn't mean you have to capture only those pleasant moments.
I wouldn't mind posting it here, but I guess it would have been deleted. If you look at the pictures I have already posted, there is for example the omega, getting bitten and harassed by several other wolfs from its pack.
I wasn't laughing. Not when I have seen and captured it, nor when I was posting it. It is your interpretation. Yes, life sucks. We all have bear the outcomes of our decisions. In the chickens case, it was the death. It is the same thing like when you don't stop at the crossing at the red light and get hit by a truck.
Maybe you should return to the moment where you decided, that I liked it / had fun seeing it.

You don't make a very strong argument for yourself, but I suppose it's not as bad as most of the comments posted under it at least.
Either way, I suppose it's more of a failing on the admins' part, if this is permitted, but a picture of a snake with a rat tail dangling out of its mouth is grounds for removal.

I agree. people do that a lot. You would maybe be surprised how many are scared by spiders or beetles and kill them out of no real reason. Or how careless they step on the ground with worms in the rain... Or how they are willing to kill the ants...
In reality people protect only what seems worth for them to protect. The price may be material, spiritual, emotional or other, but the human has to get a positive effect (motivation) from keeping / saving / interacting / etc. with the animal. It is so with all the animals aswell. That of course means, that people compare the amount of satisfaction the species bring to them. And therefore the more the animal brings to one, the more the animal means to him. That is human and animal way to create bonds in-species and inter-species.
(I hope I have written it right - it is pretty late already)
