Hey folks! Before I ramble big announcement
I am going back to the university soon for my final year of university instruction (probably) for my Bachelors degree! Classes start this monday and as such i kinda need to focus on school. The rate of uploads may decline as a result sorry about that! Thats just how it rolls.
So the Driyalkir, who are they? what are they and what do they do?
Driyalkir in short are the OG race of Drekir. The caste dragons come from what is basically an alternate reality of the world (rules by dragons) and they originally served the role of drekir before the humans turned drekir from the pulse woke up. They are a very different breed of drekir from the human-drekir. their most notablye traits being their size, standing closer to human height, as well as there armored scaled that they grow at the top of the head and snout as well as the chest and belly. They also will sometimes grow horns and will always have fangs.
Following the pattern of drekir races being determined by the location in which the egg is laid or the person is drekified. A Driyalk cannot occur from a human being drekified, and an egg hatching a driyalk can only happen if the egg is laid within a caste kingdom. The magic of the kingdom's Prejag tends to override what the region's race normally would be in terms of what hatches. As such drekir populations in caste dragon societies over centuries will give way to driyalk societies without an influx of drekir either traveling to the kingdom or being forced into the society.
In the years following the wakeup, draconic caste kingdoms suddenly started having more drekir than they knew what to do with, additionally these drekir didn't speak draconic and were often upstarts who would rebel violently. So these new drekir were a HUGE problem. so the loyal caste drekir, whom had spent thousands of generations in unquestioning loyalty to the kingdoms they hailed from, were moved into a new caste within society. This spread across the Americas relatively quickly in just about 4 years and it was known as "The Poems of the Driyalkir" which established the law of the new caste. The caste-drekir were promoted to the new caste of the driyalkir.
So the caste of the Driyalkir has a few jobs
1) Teach the new drekir draconic language, known as Sivilao
2) Teach the drekir how draconic society works, what is asked of the drekir caste as well as the laws of the kingdom.
3) Manage the drekir as they work, often functioning as work managers and ensure they do their jobs, as well as to arrest drekir who break the laws of the kingdom.
4) Serve as a militia force in times of war or need to support Ormer and MaeVaeJur fighters in combat
So the system of teaching the drekir how to be functional members of society is most commonly done via an apprenticeship system. one Driyalk will often take on 1-10 drekir (depending on how many drekir need teaching) All the drekir learning under a driyalk usually work the same job the driyalk did. These drekir will work under this driyalks advice, teachings and orders for the days work before retiring to a small set of homes for an evening of education, learning Sivilao and draconic Religious teachings. this will happen for a period of 5 years, after which the drekir are permitted to work free of driyalk supervision and the driyalk will move onto a new group to teach the draconic lifestyle.
while the vast majority of Driyalkir are driyalkier, a drek can earn the title of driyalk through loyalty to the caste kingdom and an excellent understanding of caste dragon culture, religion, and language. Though this is a rare case it does happen!
Driyalkir additionally are required to meet up once a week for 5 hours of military drilling by the ormer, so if the tides of war crash onto the kingdoms shores, they have a large force of combat trained and equipped driyalkir to call upon in case of the need arising. They will often work to support Ormer.
Tactics and equipment vary by kingdom. Some kingdoms use spear and shield formations utilizing phalanx tactics. Some might go with more of a Roman Testudo style of warfare. Other kingdoms equip their driyalk with halberds, glaives, bows, crossbows etc. etc. POINT is the equipment and tactics used by driyalkir in combat vary kingdom by kingdom.
They are always heavily armed and armored with VerdaStal weaponry and armor. Rarely gunpowder weapons.
Lastly, as seen in the upper left picture, driyalkir do sometimes leave the caste dragon society for one reason or another to learn about the drekir. There is a lot of apprehension around befriending a driyalk as a drek, due to their connections to caste dragon societies. But it isn't unheard of, the most common cause is a mother or father breaking out of a caste town with a their son or daughter, a driyalk egg. Often some driyalkir simply break free of caste society out of curiosity, desiring to seek out a new life with the drekir.
