...only I didn't want to say fudge. I wanted to say %#@^
Ok, so this was something that actually came up months ago, and was actually kind of frustrating on the reveal side of things. But yes, for those who don't know, Randall WILL be in the Monsters Inc. world...of KINGDOM HEARTS 3!
...is anybody surprised? Really? Shouldn't be. Personally I knew this from the start, hence my excitement when MI's reveal trailer showed up and the leak pictures that were shown before turned out to be genuine. I mean the guy's pretty popular in the MI circle, so popular that he got his own figure in Disney Infinity, which wasn't outright planned from the start (see, for instance, he's got a clone in the Infinity story bit heh).
But lets wind it back a bit. What? A few of you knew Randall was in the game before the rest of us? How so is that?
Well, turns out, get this, the trailer ALL of us saw at E3, well, two of them anyway, supposedly came from the trailer bits shown in the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra Tour, where the series soundtrack is played to moments in the KH universe.
BUT...get this. Not ALL of that material was shown at E3. Nope. Three things, at least, were not. A further conversation with an Organization 13 member in Olympus (dang Xigbar), a dancing mini-game with Rupunzel......and last, but not least, the first appearance of Randall. That's right, those that paid the price for admission saw some material that, later on, still hasn't been released public.
Now, with respect to Nomura, who requested people not show stuff from the Orchestra, this may seem alright...but honestly, you shouldn't have to PAY to see something...and then hide it from the public later. I mean, I can understand if it's a raising thing like patreon or the like, or if people get a sneak peek before the public a few days or so in advance, I get that. I mean, if they had shown everything from that trailer at E3, a few days later, alright, I can get that. Spend a little to get an early sneak peek, ok, that may be fine. But to hide it for months? Come on.
But of course, humanity has it's rule breakers, and always will, no matter what.
The Gamers Joint posted a reaction video of their KH Orchestra viewing, showing just their reaction to what they were seeing. It's loud, distorted, and low-quality...but anybody with a decent ear can pick up, at least, what seems to be Randall saying "who cares". It's a tease, sure, and CERTAINLY would make people want to see what they saw...and, yeah, kinda breaks that promise...but it's still a little respectful, wanting people to see more.
Then, later on...the trailer leaked, or at least some of it. In very low quality. It's like a bootleg version, but it didn't diminish the effect at all. It was AWESOME to see confirmation that he's there, as he SHOULD be.
People debate that this person, whomever it was, was disrespectful...but come on...it was GOING to happen. Can't really single a person out when it's HUMAN NATURE to do stuff like this. Besides, whomever it was STILL delayed showing the stuff till the Orchestra was well on the way. Really, it's how it should be. I get why Square would do it, but it's still a punch to the gut to have everyone else who couldn't pay the price to wait MONTHS for just a glance at something. Heck, for Randall, it was only a few seconds. But a few seconds like that will REALLY get people wanting to play the game even more. Certainly did have that effect on me. So I say kudos to the guy for showing it, and while it was frustrating to wait, thanks for waiting for the tour to be in for awhile before showing it. Besides, we don't know if Square will release it public, and when they do, we'll still see it in all it's HD and what-not glory and STILL get excited.
Originally, I was waiting for the Tokyo Game Show in case they decided to show anything, but lo and behold, THEN came the Big Hero 6 Trailer. Naturally I took a look, expecting just a Big Hero 6 world given how small it was and how people have been wanting it (and boy does it look GOOD! Wonder how the rest of the BH6 team will be involved if Baymax and Hiro are the two extra party members...)
But guess, in a few brief seconds, who showed up looking DANG good huh? Yep, for the second time, Randall's shown up! For the first time though, publicly! Interesting how they show him being more talkative than aggressive...which is a good sign...
Anyway, naturally me and Rigel are excited. Randall on the other hand....yeah...not so much.
Thinking about it, for him it probably sucks that he's probably going to be shown in a typical "out for revenge" shtick, and people who don't like him will praise the chance to whack him upside the head with a keyblade. It's like having your mistakes catch up to you after nearly two decades when you're turning your life around.
Try to remind him it's just a game...but then again...me and Rigel want...to...play it...
Honestly, I don't like the concept of wrecking the guy up in the game...really am hoping Nomura will give him some kind of out, a positive ending. Cause the guy's not all bad, we see that in University where he was a pretty cool (if geeky) guy. And with KH's talk about light/darkness/friendship and all that, give the guy a break...
...cause lets face it, compared to Vanitas, Randall's a near-saint. For a reference, for those who don't know, Vanitas is...well...a pretty powerful and dangerous...thing. To put it in perspective, ALL the enemies from one of the games...all came from THIS guy. Yep.
My theory is that Vanitas is getting his power back after his defeat by Ventus through the negative emotions the Unversed are getting from kids through use of the factory. Randall may have assisted in this, unfortunately, in bids of getting Vanitas' help with Sulley and Mike. But, it's hard to say right now. Vanitas is a dangerous dude...hopefully Randall knows it and finds that he's in over his head dealing with the guy.
I didn't think of it till I saw vids of people complaining about the orchestra leak, whether it was good or bad or whatever, but someone did say that Randall is the first Pixar "antagonist" to show up. Which. in that sort of terms, is true, and rather significant. I mean heck, it's significant that they HID him from public for so long. The reveal of Aqua, Axel, Kairi, and Riku Replica were mind-blowing stuff in those trailers...yet they held HIM in reserve? Just how important is he...?
Anyway, I'm at odds a little, knowing the guy and seeing how he's changed. Seeing how he was as a kid in college, being a decent person just tugged at my feel-bad strings...and I don't want to see something like him being arrested by the CDA or Vanitas gutting him in a betrayal move...would just leave a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the game...
What I would like is a sort of turnaround during the world story. Randall's antagonistic at first, probably driven by taking Sulley and Mike down in revenge, and may be giving a weakened Vanitas the "keys to the factory" in exchange for assistance (unknowing, perhaps, that Vanitas is growing stronger because of it). We get ourselves an awesome boss fight with Randall (sorry buddy, but I want to see how awesome you'd be in such a fight!), and maybe at some point he gets that partnering up with Vanitas was a huge mistake. Would love to see him assist the party in a final world boss-fight against Vanitas, maybe using that Scream Extractor thing to bring down the power Vanitas got.
I mean would kind of go with a dark/light thing, and Vanitas is a black hole. Randall's not the nicest person, and he's made mistakes, but he's got good in him, we've all seen it...and just discarding it like it wasn't there seems kind of...cruel. I mean...honestly, Randall reminds me a little of Riku...Riku's made some mistakes, and sure as heck has embraced the dark, but he still got to the good side. That's something they could do with Randall, which would be one heck of a way to use Pixar's first antagonist in Kingdom Hearts.
