I LOVE Dune. Love it. It’s my favorite book. Though I’m ashamed to say, especially at my age, that I only read it this year. I was supposed to read it in high school, but……well, I don’t think I would have appreciated it at that young age anyway. But that’s the great thing about literature and fandom in general. This book was making fans and inspiring creativity well before I was born and it’ll continue to hook new sci-fi enthusiasts for as long as human literature exists. What an amazing thing it must be to have written such an immortal story.
As I type this, I’m halfway through Children of Dune and there are still 3 more I get to read! How exciting ^_^ That’s why I’m always confounded by people who say they never read books. Your next favorite thing could be out there waiting and you’re denying yourself the chance to make its acquaintance. Why would you do that?
Anyhoo. It goes without saying that I need my own Fremen character (I love the Fremen). This is Tanno. He’s way into plants and worms and his lover, Pike, who I have yet to draw. My skill at rendering humans is…..they’re not easy for me, yet they’re such a large part of my inspiration (You suck, Irony). Almost all of my own characters are human or nearly so, yet I can’t settle on a style, I can’t visualize facial construction (not enough melange in my diet) I spend so much time studying references and it doesn't seem to make it any easier…..well, like my partner says, each attempt is more practice. So it goes.
I wish sandworms were real…….

Right? I mean, I've read many a book where I could perfectly visualize the scenes in my head as if they had happened in a TV series, to the point I've had to seriously debate if I've seen something of its ilk before. I've gotten in to reading & writing at a very young age ever since I had played through Paper Mario for the first time: that's when I knew that the RPG genre would be my all-time favorite and that they'd get me hooked on studying the works of others for use in my own works. Such a shame I've not actually made an honest attempt to publish my works yet, but mostly because I don't feel they (or even I) are quite ready, so I guess in the meantime I can just post freelance stuff on FA! =^.^=
