The Cat's Eye Perservation was in chaos. Countless many felines of every shape and size were prowling about, unsupervised and out of their cages, rolling around in human clothes, chasing after patrons and staff members. Yet despite this, not many even realized what was happening. With the servers mysteriously down and no signals for cell phones, they were completely isolated from the world.
For Jim, Dan, Ann and Lisa, this was the first time in a while they were without orders. Their walkie-talkies were dead, but they didn't know that nor cared. As temp workers transitioning soon to real works, they wore their blue shirts on as they messed around outside of the Jaguar Exhibit. None of them knew that Derek had recently changed into a panther and that staying too close to it might be bad for them if they wanted to retain their humanity.
Not that it hardly mattered. While they did their best impressions of being scared of the Jaguar painted on the wooden barricade behind them, the Wandering Witch watched on and giggled, completely un-noticed by the four of them as she waved her hand to say a few commands. “There's no need to be so dramatic in your performances. Why so scared or even pretend to be? As cats, you can naturally be terrifying on your own.”
Those words were carried by the wind, barely audible, but they took root in each of their minds like seeds of transformation. There were no instructions beyond being cats, so the effects would likely connect to the first thing that came to mind for each of them. Dan, sitting in the far back, was the first to feel the changes.
“That Jaguar's not so scary. I can be even scarier,” Dan said to himself as his lips pulled back, well beyond what a human was capable of, baring much sharper teeth than before. His ears turned more flexible as he then made an impressive feline hiss. This got Ann to laugh loudly.
“You call that being scary. That sounds like a house cat,” She said, pulling down her pants to let out her hairless tail, slowly growing fur on it.
“But I'm an Ocelot. I can't help it if I'm supposed to be as big as a house cat,” Dan mewed, his eyes getting rounder and turning green.
“This is how you do it,” Ann said as her large ears grew over her hair. She flexed her new claws as she let out a eerie screech, sending shivers down Dan's spine. Jim laughed at the two of them as his dainty hindpaws stepped out of his shoes. He had the look of a lynx on him.
“Amateurs, this is how it's done,” His long ears pulled back as he let out a much deeper, louder feline screech. Ann and Dan leapt out of their pants in fright—literally.
“I have you all beat, I'm afraid. I'm a King Cheetah, so I'll put this argument to rest,” Lisa growled as she stretched out her body and tail, getting a good work out before she let out the most fierce roar of them all. They all shrank down on all fours, fur on their backs standing on end.
“W-Wow, that's amazing, Lisa,” Dan mewed, now an ocelot in a baggy human shirt. “Nothing can beat you. You really are the king...”
“Should be a queen, but it's fine,” Lisa winked, struggling to get her panties off. “I dare anyone to beat that.”
“Get out of my territory! All of you! Now!”
There was a loud and defying roar from behind the cage as Derek swiped at the barricade, resulting in a loud banging noise. At once, the four cats scattered in all directions, leaving their clothes, equipment, and lives behind. Not that Derek cared. They were disrupting his courtship with Evelyn.
“Derek, honey?” Evelyn mewed.
“Coming, Sweetie.” Derek growled, prowling back into the foliage.
