and here's the color version. I could probably tweak and fiddle with this all day and not be happy with it, but I think it's at a 'stick a fork in it' stage now. Marker underlay for base colors, then shaded up with colored pencils, and blended with turpentine to give it some smoothness.

I decided it might have a little more personality to it if I made the foxes different colors. Although you can't really see it in the scan, the red fox has some yellow shading in his fur, and the gold fox has some red shading in his just to help link them together visually.
