More tool experimenting. These are Cran "Jumbo" colour pencils, in a set of 10. They were nice to blend, thick and comfortable for me to hold with my fat fingers, very smooth and a bit on the soft side without smudging too much. Generally, a joy to work with... the only flaw I could find is that a few of the colours were on the pale side, especially the red pencil. The darkest I could make it was a medium pink.
I'd had this guy in mind for a while, drawing the original thumbnail sketch in May 2009. I thought it would be neat to show a furry fellow with cornrow braids. It took me a bit of time to figure out a species and general description for him before I settled on the hyena concept.
The original is approximately 8"x11", colour pencils on white sketch paper.
