This is Azul.... some of you might remember the first time I drew him back when I was in college....

I think I've improved alot since then (I hope)
And I have Shinerai from DA to thank for that! Looking at all the magnificent pieces (whether they be finsihed or sketches) really helped inspire me to pick up the pencil and work on dragons again! (Which Im very grateful for, because I loves my scaly beasties!)
You might notice I changed the feathers on his head (so they wouldnt look like a pointsetta anymore LOL) and took off his wings because.... well.... he used to fly in my story... but he doesnt necessarily need them.... which means he isnt a true Quez anymore. Because Quezacotl are "Winged Serpents"
Im blathering.... I'll stop!
-Im not sure I like the lines of darker small scales.... I might delete them from his final design... I havent decided yet.
This is soooo a typical Azul face lol. He's a prankster!

Thanks for the fav and comment.. and no, his name only means "Blue" because when I originally created him it was something like 2am and I was brain dead. His coloration is patterned after a Blue and Gold Macaw parrot :) He's originally an aztec "winged serpent" or Quezacotyl (its spelled like 9 thousand different ways).... so I dont know if his wings will come back or not. I kinda like his design without them..... Dragons are hard enough to draw without the added stress of huge believable wings, you know? lol
I figured with his crest being so over the top HUGE.... he didnt necessarily need the wings as well. Im tempted to add the wings back in just as a test for my own ability... to see if I can make them look believable (like they could actually carry him in flight) Maybe Ill give him a "Wing Tattoo" on his back and he can have them if he needs them.... strictly magical lol. (So.... technically he has wings.... but not all the time because its easier to not have them..... I think I might be too tired and Im n ot making much sense anymore)
No I understand, and I think the wing tattoo is an awesome idea! :D You are definitely far more creative than I. His crest does take up a bit of space, I suppose it would get a bit crowded with two big ol' everyday wings on his back... Maybe you can make his magical wings transparent (in a shade of color) if you decided to do it. Not that I would be upset if you didn't, just a thought I had. ^_^
