Humm.. maybe a one off? I had something similar with Fifa.. um.. Fifa 96 on the Genesis. Black screen of death it could be called. You can still see part of the game on your screenshot. ^^;

Oh, I remember this error screen. You might want to run an emulated copy on the Wii or track down a later version of the N64 cartridge, both have some of these undocumented features patched. I remember having this sort of crash occur when fighting The Master.

Oh dearie. Summat similar happened to me with my copy of Jak and Daxter (the first one). The game suddenly stopped loading textures when I entered Sandover Village, which made me feel as if I was suddenly alpha-testing, with everything bar the character models looking like a rejected Big Rigs track. Thank Dog it only ever happened once and the disc has been absolutely fine since.
