Discord is best described as a combination of skype and teamspeak. You have the possibility of adding friends and using it as private messager or calling added friends like with skype, while having the possibility of making servers, were others, that have a link to it, can join, write and talk about various stuff together like teamspeak, just without actually needing to host a server for it.
Its pretty much the go to messager of today. Even more cause skype kind of keeps shooting itself in its own leg with their updates.

Telegram is a much simpler messager. its compareable to whatsapp and you do need a phonenumber to use it, cause its more used as a phoneapp. but its also useable on pc and eventho you used your phone number to use it, it doesnt need you to add peoples phone number to add em and if you add em without phonenumber, they cant view your number (be warned tho, I think people, who do have your phonenumber and use telegram aswell can message you directly). its pretty neat to use for your closer friends.
also you can use those stickers like emojis. you can use things that are already added or add your own all by yourself via a simple bot. its a nice lil gimmick to play around with.
