So a long time ago when I was just a kid I had a nightmare. And it's one of the few that have stuck with me through all these years. As a child I didn't think much of it but as I got older and thought over it all I have realized it may have actually meant something.
In this dream I was a little mouse, running and playing through a field. The sun was shining and the birds were singing and all was beautiful and well. As I ran about playing, I come across something strange. It didn't have any shape or color, and out of curiousity I tried to pick it up. But as I reach out to touch it, the ground below my feet suddenly collapses and I fall into darkness.
I hit the ground hard.
When I open my eyes I'm surrounded by dark shadows, moving and pacing about all around me. I could tell by the way they looked, tracking my every movement, that they wanted nothing more than to do me harm. I was terrified and tried to make myself as small as possible, refusing to leave the light from above. They shadows wouldn't cross into the light so I felt ever so slightly safe. But the day wouldn't last forever, and I knew it all too well.
Just as all feels lost something moves in front of the sun over head, and I turn to panic. But as I fear all is lost a lone bird flies down into the earth where I had been taking shelter. It landed a few inches from me and I try to scoot as far away as possible, uncertain of what the bird is trying to do. It eventually flies away for a little while only to come back time after time. It gets closer and closer to me and eventually I become angry at it. I swat at it, trying to chase it away but no matter how I try it doesn't give in.
Finally as night begins to fall, the bird comes back one last time, once again standing close to me and watching. I was exhausted and frustrated and I wanted nothing more than to go home. So I lay down, covered my eyes and just let whatever was to happen, happen. The bird watched on for a moment or two before finally hopping up and standing on my back. It was light and I could barely notice it there. It made a little chirp and I suddenly felt weightless, as if I was flying.
The bird had lifted me upwards and out of the ground, allowing me to go free as I once had. I never ended up seeing the bird as it flew away, but I wanted to thank it.
As a kid I had no clue, but I realize now after I've been at the bottom and refused help over and over again, that sometimes you just need to accept the hands that come to you. Sure you may feel weak and useless but there's a bird out there who wants to help from the goodness of their heart.
Now that I'm older and am able to do so, I hope to someday be someone's bird.
Alrighty now that I've got that out the way have a good evening/day/morning or whatever.
I did my digital art for the however long it's gonna be till I do more.
