"You're sleek as a thoroughbred, your tanks are like a feather bed, you'll turn everybody's head today!" In more ways than one!
HAHA! Time to ruin your childhoods, folks! By taking a pass at a movie we all loved growing up!
I actually had been meaning to do a Chitty carmorph for a long time now, just for the hell of it. Now, I COULD have given Chitty an appropriate look for a 1909 machine morph, but I deliberately made her appear this way so I can make ya'll never look at Chitty the same way ever again.
Though, had I waited maybe a few more months, I could have released this on the movie's 50th anniversary in December. x3

Instead of a Steam Locomotive, try a Diesel or Electric, or such.
I must highly suggest the following due to ease:
Diesel - The Super Chief - Great idea from a classic image of one: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/20/7.....c642f21dde.jpg (I dare her to say "OH YEAAAAH!" in this)
Electric - World famous 1981 TGV courtesy of the French. Le Oui~
Funky - SCMaglev from the minds in Japan. Domo Arigato Mister Roboto? :P

Have you tried modelling them on British steam engines?
For example, the S46 Claud Hamilton 4-4-0's, or the S69 4-6-0's of the Great Eastern Railway? Their cylinders and valve gear were between the frames, giving them a nice, clean aesthetic.

Or perhaps the City class of the Great Western Railway? It is said that one of their number was the first to 'do the ton', and break 100mph.

Or for something a bit more..... imposing?
Then perhaps you may find your muse in the one true Steam God, the Queen of the Permanent Way, whose humble name belies her awesome might, and majesty.
And that engine?
