Background: Born on the continent of Tyvandael (tie-van-dale) in the village of Fall's Run, the human who would be called Lena Greyloft was given the name "Jonah Grayven" at birth. Her parents, Edward and Re'naliel Grayven, were entertainers once upon at time- Edward a bard and Re'naliel a dancer and actress- before they decided to settle down and had three children, two humans and one half-elf all. When Lena was fifteen, she befriended a young dwarven alchemist by the name of Andros Mountaintooth, and through him became apprenticed to his master, another dwarf named Bromswell Ironhead. Though she never had the head for the arithmetic required to forge constructs like her master and Andros, she was a natural talent when it came to extracts and explosions, crafting ability-enhancing brews or devastating bombs with equal skill. Through her studies of the sciences and alchemy, as well as her conversations with her dwarven peers, Lena soon realized what that nagging sense of wrongness that had plagued her for most of her life had been: she was not a boy, but rather a woman, her soul born in the wrong body, a hiccup in the natural order.
Knowing this, she sought to correct this error through alchemy. Sadly, when her father stumbled upon her notes for this endeavor, he flew into a rage and the two exchanged barbs with one another, resulting in her being disowned by her parents as a disgrace to both them and Erastil, for in her studies she had drifted from what she had been raised to believe and saw the gods as merely "significantly advanced planar entities" rather than flawless deities. Stealing away with Andros and Bromswell in the middle of the night, Lena traveled with them to Krynn, the capital city of Tyvandael, where she was introduced to her first proper laboratory. Over the course of the next several years, her knowledge of alchemy grew, but the key to true transformation, to unlocking her true self, continued to elude her.
However, when the mysterious continent of Astralen suddenly appeared, whispers of lost technologies and ancient magics rippled through the magical community of Krynn, spread among wizard and alchemist alike. Emboldened by these rumors, Lena immediately joined up with the local chapter of the Seekers of Nethys, a scholar's guild that planned an expedition to this new land. In her heart, she hoped some lost method of transmutation could be found there that would at the very least point her in the right direction. Arriving in the city of Vahnaric, she was placed on a research team under Tristan, a member of the Seekers' branch in the city.
Upon discovery of a series of springs with seemingly random polymorphic properties, which her team had dubbed "The Lantern King's Grotto," Lena set to work trying to unravel the mysteries of the water. It was her belief that somehow, she could brew a specialized elixir of sex change from it that was tailored to her specific biology, allowing her to become whom she truly was, leaving her male flesh behind and becoming truly female. Briefly after being introduced to her future adventuring companions, a local group of heroes and underdogs known as "Excel," an apprentice accidentally unleashed a burst of wild magic in the laboratory, causing all experiments with the water to go off and transform the researchers. Due to her mixture being so specialized and tailored, the wild magic actually catalyzed Lena's elixir and spontaneously transformed her into her true sex.
Overjoyed, Lena then joined up with Excel to search for one of the Seekers' more prominent researchers, who had recently gone missing while on an expedition further into the continent. With a new body, a new lease on life, and new friends, it appears as though Lena's adventures have only just begun.

Neat story. I have an official Pathfinder Society adventure where one quest reward is an option to turn into an "oread" (half earth-elemental), so this kind of thing isn't too far off from canon. The Alchemist class kind of bores me because by default they're all Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. But there's a class variant that ditches that mutagen class feature and looks interesting: the Aerochemist.
