Everyones entitled to an artsy picture of themselves. This one's being used as a front cover for my art binder. I don't do still lifes, but I thought that nothing defines the art world more than a painting of flowers and a silk sheet.. no matter how dull they are as an artists' subject matter (unless you make them radiant like Van Gogh). By G*d if my scanner didn't chew the color to pieces! I had a hard time getting the blacks black without the rest of it glowing and losing all details. That is always a continuing struggle with me. I swear the real artwork doesn't look at ALL like this, and the same goes for all my previous submissions. I wish I could SHOW you the actual artwork, without the scanner eating it. :(
Anyway, what gives this particular piece a "painted" effect was using markers on shiny paper. It allowed me to really push the ink around and blend colors together since the ink takes awhile to dry as it sits on top of the paper instead of soaking into it. As a final touch, I used a white gel pen to make light reflections for the glass, and airbrushed my name in (which was an after-thought) using GIMP.
