So I take it that during your first solo, in the event that your very first attempt at landing isn't particularly good (or even a bit embarrassing) you're allowed to quickly lift off again and retry as many times as you feel needed until you get it right or at least close enough to perfect, am I right?

Certainly. It's all about you as the student taking all the responsibility. It's a confidence builder. Of course if he had a really terrible landing where he damaged something, he'd know to call it quits and taxi in.

I can tell that this is a monumental chapter of the story. Who would have thought that after all this time, that off all things to help Chucky most beat and break his anxiety over his flight capabilities that it would be a disgusting tobacco chewing habit of an annoying old Lab dog of a man for a flight instructor.

It's also obvious he has a lot of envy for other people in his life that contribute a great deal to his anxiety, that being primarily Kitchy (for what he has) and Adam (for what he can do), it's obvious that flying in pattern coinciding with Kitchy made him nervous and all the more envious, it's obvious that this affected his first solo flying and landing performance given his obvious nervousness this whole page, especially whne remembering what his flight instructor had previously boasted about Adam's intelligence and capabilities to his face only a few days earlier, I could tell that was definitely still fresh on his mind. It's good to see that during his solo he was still able to work through those itching meddling thoughts enough to be able to focus and make a safe landing after his first try.

In many ways this is like Chucky losing his virginity a second time ..I imagine after this page he'll have enough of a boost of confidence to go and iron out things by having some closure with Merry (as he indicated that he intended on doing after his first solo earlier in this comic) and maybe even get laid for the second time in his life. ;) I mean aside from the handjob he got from Merry, that's like partially getting laid but since it's not technically full sexual intercourse I think actually making love to her would in a way be like finishing a half done deed ) However I don't think they should end up together, it's obviously never going to work given the age and maturity difference, but still I do think Chucky should get some serious closure with her nonetheless so he can more easily move on with his life. However I don't think it would be like Chucky to take a 'pump and dump' approach toward another person, so if the story goes in that direction, despite him already being aware that she used him once before ) and knowing Chucky's own desperate naivete in his pursuits to acquire a female mate/possible life partner, I think that it should be from the trajectory of him wanting to give her one last shot at a real relationship and see what happens before he can finally move on with his life.

Still would, though I know it would be better for him not to focus on women at all and just stick to his studies and flight progress, I would like to see him eventually end up with either Kyra or Nimsha (or even both over different time periods) for at least a while if nothing else. ;)

Chucky is working through a lot of personal stuff, like all of us. Part of the challenge is writing someone his age since it requires me to remember all the things that caused me stress and anxiety back then. I also have to write a believable immaturity into this behavior that can be cringy at times. But if we remember back to our teen years, most of us were pretty cringy and our thoughts were even cringier.

I noticed that both main gear wheels touched down at the same time. After all the crosswind landing practice he's done, a straight headwind landing would be ridiculously easy for him.

That's part of the irony of this day. It's a beautiful windless autumn day, just like the day of my first solo.

No such irony for me. Merritt Island Airport (KCOI) was near the Atlantic coast. So there were almost always a sea breeze. Add to that the rising thermals on hot Florida afternoons, and it was a turbulent ride almost all the way to touchdown.

Didn't know that Chucky had a windless day there. Maybe should have drawn a limp windsock somewhere.

Now that you say that, I think I had intended for him to comment on it. He was going to say something like, "Of course. After all that work, on the day I solo it's perfectly calm." Totally forgot.

You can always have him say that in the next comic page you are working on now.

I'll try to fit it in the dialogue. The next few pages are already done, they just need to be digitized.
