If he was able to create Smurfs then why even bother going after them? And how is a smurf an ingredient to create gold in alchemy? Or why would he want to eat these little blue things? Gargamel had to have been the most conflicting villain making up excuses for going after the Smurfs."

You know, they're coming out with a movie December 2010?
Right now they need castings for Smerfette but they want a 8-10 year old. DX I'm a good 11 years late.
Either way, he sure as hell did something right when he made those two girl Smurfs~
