Blood of the Family – Sacrifice Gasping for breath and with tears running down her cheeks Ella emerged from the forest and into the clearing where she’d last sensed Thomas’s aura “He… he should be around here somewhere… now where…” she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks and in mid-thought as her eyes locked on something laying in the clearing as haphazardly as if it been thrown there like litter. “T-Thomas…” she managed to stutter out as she stared in horror.
He was lying there, perfectly still, in a large pool of crimson liquid. As Ella slowly resumed breathing she nearly hurled, the smell of blood and charred flesh was overwhelming, and the sheer number of cuts and claw marks on Thomas’s body weren’t helping her keep her lunch down any. She’d seen fights get out of hand and people get hurt before… but this… doing this to someone was nothing less than sadism.
The sight of this seemed to suck all the exhaustion out of her body and replace it with a form of hopeless desperation as she hurled herself across the clearing to him as the tears kept streaming down her cheeks. She all but threw herself the last few feet to him as she placed her head on Thomas’s chest, her long ears focusing on that as she listened intently.
…………. Thu-thump………………. Thu-thump……………………. Thu-thump….
THERE!! Ella’s eye’s snapped open. He had a heartbeat!! Sitting up and looking down on Thomas Ella wished she could feel more relieved. Even if he was still alive his heartbeat was getting fainter and fainter… “What do I do?” Ella thought to herself “I don’t know any first aid!! And by the time an ambulance arrives…”
She shook her head, NO!! She couldn’t think like that! There had to be SOMETHING she could do… but what!? “All I’m good at is fighting!!” she mentally shouted in despair “I don’t know anything about saving anyone!!” then, as if her thoughts had triggered a ripple, an old memory started to come back “Saving someone…”
~Twelve Years Ago, the home of Mr. & Mrs. Rukiko~
On a grassy knoll next to their home a tall lucario, better know as Rolando Rukiko, seemed to be training himself in some form of martial art. He stood there practicing his strikes fluidly, his lean but sculpted figure and Chinese styled outfit silhouetted on the hill like something out of a classing Kung Fu film. As he began a rapid fire series of kicks a young cry rang out.
“DADDY!!!” the energetically joyful voice declared as it’s owner, a little riolu girl no older then four wearing a neon pink t shirt and bright orange short dashed up the hill and threw herself into her fathers arms with joy “YOU’RE BACK!!” she shouted before smiling up to the older fighting type “Did you win, huh huh? Did you?” she giggles a little “Please tell me you did Daddy!”
Mr. Rukiko allowed a warm smile to come to his usually placid face as he gave his daughter an affectionate pat on the head “As a matter of fact my dearest I did.” He said simply as the little riolu in his arms cheered “Yaaaaay!! My Daddy’s the STRONGEST!! I wanna be just as strong as you are daddy!!” she shouted “I wanna be able to use aura to win matches too!!” another soft smile appeared on Mr. Rukiko’s face as he moved Ella over so he was holding her in only one arm “Well my dearest Ella, there’s quite a bit more to Aura then just winning matches with it.”
The little girl blinked as she looked up to him in curious innocence “There is?” her father chuckled and held his free hand out as a familiar blue glow surrounded it “Yes, there is. You see dearest Aura is the flow of life, both ours….” he gently placed a finger on Ella’s nose as the glow entered her, but instead of the kind of knockout she say her daddy use it for in the arena if felt like it was tickling her all over as she squealed and giggled “And of others.” Mr. Rukiko continued on with a smile “If you have the will and the spirit then there is no limit to what Aura can do, harming, saving, perfecting, all of these are in your grasp my dearest one.”
Ella just looked up to her father in wonder as her little four year old mind tried to take all this in. The older mon chuckled and hugged her “But then again, you might be a little young for this.” he said, setting the little on his shoulders. Ella giggled happily at the piggy back ride, her confusion forgotten “You’re the greatest daddy!!” she shouted happily as they headed back inside.
~Back at the Clearing~
Ella blinked through her tears “The w-will and s-spirit… maybe… please…” She held up her hands and focused, as always she struggled to focus the flow, to pull forth the aura, to actually use it, but this time her desperation or her single goal it came to her as the familiar blue glow surrounded her hands. She’d never been even half as good as her dad was with aura… she actually couldn’t make an Aura Sphere that didn’t fizzle out when it got about eight feet from her, but maybe, just maybe she was good enough to help Thomas.
“Please, oh dear Arceus please let this work” she quietly begged as she placed her hand on Thomas’s chest and tried to focus, the fact she could no long feel a pulse of any kind from the absol was enough to give her a desperate boost of power. “Please… if will and spirit not enough… I’ll do anything… just please…” she mentally prayed “Bring Thomas back…” as she poured all the energy she could pull out of herself into his prone body.
~Somewhere between life and death, sort of a crossroads for souls~
“Took the bastard long enough.” an irritated voice muttered as he hovered in the infinite void of blackness. There were only two things that gave any color or depth to the swirling void, one of them was what looked like the hazy and half-visible form of Thomas Darkken. Still sprawled on the ground as Ell found him, bloody and beaten. Oddly enough it seemed to be getting more solid by the second.
The second form was a rather pissed off looking shiny duskull by the name of Humphree. He was one of what you call “Soul Guides” various ferals, though mostly ghost types with a few dark types, charged with escorting the souls of mortals to their respective afterlives. Whether that is heaven, hell, reincarnation, whatever, that wasn’t really their concern. What WAS their concern, or at least Humphree’s, was retirement. The duskull had been working this gig for the past several centuries and was due for his retirement; all he had to handle was ONE last job…
Then THIS kid showed up! Sure it had seemed easy enough at first follow the absol kid around, wait for him to die, drag his soul to the afterlife. But the stupid kid wouldn’t die!! Falling down five flights of stairs, getting beaten with a .00001 inch of death, getting a death hug from that freak show girlfriend of his! Nothing!! Humphree was starting to get the impression old age was gonna be the thing to off the stupid brat and he’d have to wait for it to finally get there… but apparently one psychotic uncle was more then enough to fix that.
“That’s what you get for cheating death kid…” Humphree muttered as he watched the absol’s form solidify, soon enough he’d be dead completely and his soul would be all the way here “Though can’t help but feel a little bad… that was the most brutal death I’ve ever seen…’ he mumbled turning away a little, he shouldn’t have to wait long now…
Suddenly a faint blue glow caught his attention. He turned around to see what the heck was happening and his non existent jaw dropped. Right there, kneeling next to the half solidified form of Thomas was the glowing outline of that weird girlfriend of his. The lucario seemed to be pushing herself to the breaking point as the glow got stronger.
“What does that crazy chick think she’s doing?” the ghost type wondered aloud “Does she honestly think pouring energy into his body will bring him back?” he gave a morbid chuckle and shook his head, almost amused by this “That’s suicide, she could suck her life-force dry and not be able to pull him back from the…”suddenly there was a blinding flash of light as the energy enveloped Thomas and both he and the silhouette of Ella vanished.
Humphree hovered there dumfounded “S-she did it… she… she managed to somehow yank him back from death… that is… that is…” his one eye watered “So inspirational, so romantic, so… so… hell is SHOULD be impossible, but she did it! That’s amazing, that…” he blinked for a moment as it sinks in what happened.
“RUINS MY PLANS FOR RETIRMENT!!!! WHY YOU STUPID LUCARIO!! WHYYYY!!!!?????”
~Back among the living~
Ella was gasping for breath as she kneeled there; she’d poured everything she had out at once… every last bit of it, did it work? She gently placed her head on Thomas’s chest, silently praying.
………………………Thu-thump…..….... Thu-thump…..……. Thu-thump…….…..
She smiled and sat up, she’d done it. She’d managed to save him. She’d…. suddenly Ella swayed a little as her vision went blurry, “Whu… what’s ha… ppen… ing…?” she managed to stutter out before the sheer amount of energy she’d burned in her previous stunt caught up with her and she passed out cold, collapsing onto of Thomas’s still unconscious form.
~several minutes later, in the surrounding forest~
“Yo! Doggy! You found them yet?” someone shouted as a growlithe boy sniffed thought the trees “Be quite and let me concentrate on tracking them and I might!” he called back, obviously worried. Suddenly another voice shouted “Well speed it up! They could be dead by now!!” followed by the shout “Don’t even joke about that!” “I was just saying” ”Well don’t!!” the multiple voices started arguing as the growlithe suddenly shouted “I found them!!” and takes off running.
A few moments of running he barreled out into a clearing and staggered to a stop, confused by the sudden change in scenery… up until his sensitive canine nose gets a whiff of blood and charred flesh. He falls to his knees gagging as the others following him emerge from the forest and stand in shock at the two unconscious bodies lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the clearing.
After a few seconds of staring someone finally managed to shout “OH ARCEUS!! SOMEONE CALL A DOCTOR!!!”
