A few days ago I swung by the gas station near home since there were no cars there. Deserted! Great!
Pulled up to lucky pump #4 (which is unlucky in Japan but this isn't Japan).
Go in to pay cash and there's a man at the counter with coffee and about a dozen items and a voice like Elmer Fudd (I'm not kidding).
Elmer: "No no, put this in with that. Oh, could you put those in a sepawate bag? Don't put that on top of this. Can you put the kawfee in the bag? Oh, I'll have to cawwy it then. (?)
He tries to wave his chip card at the reader. Then he tries to swipe with the short edge of the card and misses and nearly falls over (?).
I try to help him and get him to put the chip in the right way. He immediately pulls it out and the machine bleeps.
Finally the lady behind the counter grabs his card, turns the machine around, and does it all for him, which was totally stupid.
Then I hand her $10 and flee out the door before Elmer even turns around.
Your suggestions would help but only for non-Elmers.

You want to know something weird? At the Jewel food stores, the card readers instruct you to remove the card BEFORE they run the authorization routine. I had thought the card was supposed to be "captive" to the reader for the ENTIRE time of the transaction, in order to prevent fraud.
I'd say the red background here looks too much like an error—and if it's understood as an error, "Keep card inserted" has to be understood as the error's instructions on how to resolve it, leaving us to think that the card wasn't seated properly and it's telling us to make sure it is.
Oh wow, ads on a credit card reader?
I consider myself pretty lucky I haven't been exposed to that.
Generally it took me a couple read-throughs and half of the comment section to figure out that this isn't thick irony, as this description is pretty much how it works where I live, minus the presence of ads.

Wow, I'm actually impressed.
In a time when paying for Netflix means you get no ads (except for the ads Netflix shows you for other things you can watch on Netflix) they still find a way.
I watch a surprising amount of Korean ads recently because Korean Starcraft League was exclusive to Twitch, and the ads were built in to the broadcast like on traditional TV. We've come such a long way.

Yup, when it says "swipe or insert", it makes you think that you can do either one, so emphasizing to insert first and swipe only if that's not an option makes a lot of sense.
And yes, no loud buzz when you're supposed to remove it! It makes me think like it's saying YOU'D BETTER NOT REMOVE THE CARD, DON'T REMOVE, DON'T REMOVE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NOW REMOVE THE GODDAMN CARD!! :P

It's funny, and I'm sure almost everyone knows how the cards work, but the possibilities of such cards in insurance are not fully disclosed. In this context, I recommend paying attention to https://wallester.com/card-solution.....ance-companies It's a great solution from the professionals for you!
