So I got a complaint that I haven't talked about Human printer guns, which is a fair enough criticism so I think here is as good of a place to talk about em as any. As well as some slow changes to the design of these printer guns and whatnot as well as some stuff about human drekification that I plan on drawing out soon (God please give me the strength to draw humans with some degree of anatomy.)
So Human technology is notably automated as far as manufacturing goes. and in many human cities, People buy printable blueprints online, printing out the majority of tools that they might need. So Humans universally will drop large, specially designed to withstand a drop from the Remotely controlled drones that carry them into the dragonscape and are often pre-programmed with dozens of helpful things as well as the heavy composite plastics that are used to print them, these printers are often additionally dropped off with crates of supplies that can't be printed, things such as food, computers, and other bits of fragile tech,
These printers come with a reservoir of advanced plastics to print with and can make things from silverware, to hammers, saws, axes, screwdrivers, clothing, etc. And while they aren't the best compared to steel, The plastic is still strong enough to get most jobs done and last a decent while. These things can also print a gun, and that is what i will talk about here.
Drekir have many nicknames for these guns, Nerf guns, Printer shooters, Plastic Blasters, etc. The guns official designation is the universally adopted name the L53 Devadoot, the design was an Indian invention so they get the name.
The Rifle is Modular, meaning that the basic model can be modified to suit any sort of role that is needed of it. It can be turned from a small caliber handgun to a high caliber sniper rifle back to an SMG or Light Machine Gun pretty easily! All it takes is a swap of the barrel to change calibers
The gun fires a caseless ammunition that is loaded into a "charge pack" These packs look like bricks and vary in size, with larger ones being about the size of an actual brick and smaller ones fitting in the palm of the hand. These are all loaded with a ball like shot in which the bullet sticks out of a ball of propellant. This makes mass production of ammo cheaper and, if a reloading center is around, the spent bricks can always be refilled or adjusted to load with a larger or smaller sized bullet and propellant. the propellant is not ignited by a primer, but an electric charge which ignites the propellant, these guns do need to be charged every now and again to keep em shooting
These guns also have multiple barrels, the gun can swap to shoot from any barrel or any combination of multiple barrels, or even alternate barrels if the user knows how to take apart the gun and set such configurations up. The firing from multiple barrels makes it difficult for any one of the barrels to overheat from extended firing allowing the gun to shoot essentially nonstop for several hours without many issues of overheating.
The customization of this gun and the ability to print a lot of them allows a drekir village built around one or more printers to essentially arm over a dozen dragons with such rifles. These can be built to enough specifications to provide a versatile arsenal.
So why doesn't everyone use them? Well there are 3 reasons that some people would rather pick a black powder rifled musket over such an automatic, high tech gun in the DragonScape.
1) Human gun's cannot penetrate VerdaStal Armor, this makes them very impractical for use in battles with the exception of more lightly equipped, faster opponents who might be harder to hit, warranting more shots, and where the lack of VerdaStal armor penetration doesn't matter as much due to the need for faster fighters to be lightly armored. But against anyone with armor, its generally not going to be strong enough to do any real damage
2) Human guns are only made around where printers are dropped. Which is mostly at Coastal and Island regions, humans drop the guns in those regions for the most part, to get on the good side of the locals. But in many regions, especially further inland, Human guns become less and less common.
3) In some cases its down to economics and perception. A Dreki can make their own powder and shot or buy it locally from other drekir, so even if a Human gun might be better in a certain situation, a VerdaStal black powder gun is cheaper and there are simply more VerdaStal guns compared to Human Printer guns. Also many drekir often see human guns as looking and acting like plastic toys. Some drekir cultures, like the Knights of ST. Cydonia, see them as demonic weapons and as such, won't touch them with a 12 foot pole.
this isn't to say the things are useless. Human printer guns tend to be used a lot by folks who might carry one for personal protection (A mugger isn't likely to run at you with any sort of armor) Or hunting, particularly small game since a dracolope isn't apt to wear armor either. For use in battle, some are used by scouts, who tend to desire a gun with less weight. Sometimes skirmishers and snipers will take them up in some circles.
Human guns are also a big deal in the Caribbean islands, particularly smaller islands, the humid conditions of sailing across the sea and the smaller islands make blackpowder less appealing by comparison, sure! They work just fine, but the reliability of the human printer guns is hard to compete with when you're in a shootout on the green Caribbean seas, and in most cases a boat isn't hardy enough to withstand a bunch of bullets regardless of if they're made of VerdaStal or just copper and lead.
So which is more common? VerdaStal or Human printer guns?
Generally speaking VerdaStal Black Powder guns are more common as a whole, but it also depends on where you're looking. For example, the Caribbean will have many more human guns (especially thanks to colonization efforts from Africa) while the Great Plains have a lot less to do with it.
And on top of that there are still drekir who will instead prefer to use a bow, or crossbow, or magic, or an airgun. or just a good old melee weapon of some type. So Human guns aren't the lead weapon type in the DragonScape generally because there are a LOT of things that work just fine.
So in conclusion here, Human Printer guns and larger weaponry is more often than not, a specialty choice of weapon, it has it's advantages and if you want to shoot off a lot of bullets really fast, you will get nothing better. But many factors, from practicality to the ability of production, or drekir perceptions of the guns limits there use to more specific cases.
anywho hope you found that informative!

What about the old-school guns? I know that the manufacturing chain would have basically collapsed post-Pulse, but you would still have plenty of experienced gunsmiths around, and the drekir would've certainly tried to develop non-industrial ammo-making processes like in the Metro games, at least in the early years. Admittedly, the stuff they need to make smokeless powder and primer might've gone bad, but that doesn't preclude them coming up with some new chemicals.
I'm guessing that it also depends on how close you are to caste-controlled areas. as regular firearms wouldn't do much use against Verdastal armour.

Oh I have covered a good bit about older human guns from before the pulse! I talk about it here

But to brief on that
Modern styled guns, be they recovered from the ruins or scrapped together with modern munitions in mind are used espeically early on in the first 5 or so years of the dragonscape but overtime they start falling out of use, becoming almost non existent for a few reasons
1) Making Enough smokeless powder to be practical in our modern world is thanks to large, fully industrialized nations that can have large numbers of people cooperating to gather materials, and them mix them and put them through the dozens of processes needed to produce modern grade smokeless powder. Drekir won't have a massive, modern and industrialized nation to pull resources from in order to make smokeless powder. As such it's harder to make in any meaningful amount.
As such drekir will mostly just have what ammo and smokeless powder survive the 30 year wait. and due to both the damaging of ammo caches in some regions thanks to the hostile conditions and lack of storage building maintenance as well as the common need to use said ammo, especially earlier on is the main reason why modern guns fall out of favor, it's just not practical to keep making smokeless powder due to the complexity in making it and what you're getting out of it
2) VerdaStal armor use will keep slowly rising in use as drekir themselves learn how to smelt it and smith it into various tools, weapons, and for this, armor. around 4-7 years is about the time knowledge of Teal-Smithing (VerdaStal Smithing) becomes more common place and with that you see a rise in more armor being used by drekir, which makes it a growing problem for anyone wanting to use a modern gun, which do have their niches against less armored enemies, but at this point are starting to run out of bullets in many regions.
So hopefully that helps clarify why, over time, drekir start turning to black powder and verdastal guns. Black powder is just easier to make compared to smokeless and the armor punching power of VerdaStal becomes more important
