Alrighty, last one it my "Team Horror Icons" series I did for Halloween this year! Thus concludes Team Krueger, Team Voorhees, and Team Williams! (Now if THIS Ash was the protagonist in Pokémon.... things would be a hell of a lot cooler!) This one was my biggest challenge of the three, since... well.... Ash Williams is played by Bruce Campbell... and I ADORE Bruce Campbell. I was beyond self critical with this one, (On a side note... dear God, I NEVER want to draw a chainsaw AGAIN!!) *pants* Anyways, figured I'd shake things up from my two favorite slashers and add in a Horror Icon hero for this one, with a well rounded team of beasts to assist in the kicking of deadite ass. Groovy! Some of his team I chose for their significance to the franchise, such as Trevenant, the tree possessed by a ghost, Rapidash... well, it strikes me as being a heroic pokemon and Ash did ride a horse in Army of Darkness when he was sent back in time to the Medieval era. I'll get more into that in a bit. Of course, Ash William's keystone is mounted on his famous Chainsaw hand, though it can detach and fit onto his metal gauntlet prosthetic too. Here we go, Team Williams.
Lucario:: When first devising what Pokémon I thought would be a good match for Ash, Lucario was the first one that came into mind. Steel/Fighting type, rocks blue just like his trainer, with Aura Sensory abilities, this bipedal hound could sniff out a Deadite before it even turns! Also having access to a wide array of powerful special and physical based attacks such as Extremespeed, Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Psychic, Power-up Punch, Bullet Punch, Flash Cannon, Iron Tail, Fire, Ice, and Thunder Punch, need I go on? Add the special ability of Justified, which only powers it up when struck by darkness, a powerful bond with it's trainer and the ability to Mega Evolve, Lucario is essentially his most powerful team member. While Lucario may get annoyed with Ash's tendencies to drink to excess, spout his mouth off, and just be an abrasive, even cowardly jerk at times, he can literally see the heroic potential within his master and at times, the line between who is training who begins to blur. While most Pokémon flee before them, Ash Williams' Lucario detests deadites and eagerly awaits that moment when his master calls him to his side for battle. However, this Pokémon refuses to so much as touch the Necronomicon, as the concentrated evil causes a severe sensory overload. Pokedex entry for Lucaria, via HGSS:: "It's said that no foe can remain invisible to LUCARIO, since it can detect auras. Even foes it could not otherwise see."
Trevenant:: This one, I included on the team due to the possessed trees you get to see in Evil Dead 2. What if there just happened to be a Trevenant among them? (Fun little tidbit, though it'd be easier to see if I ever did a colored version of this. Ash's Trevenant is actually shiny!) Before getting sent back in time, Ash ended up accidentally catching this rare and unusual creature, as it was attracted by the Necronomicon's call. An empty Pokeball had fallen out of his pocket while being ripped into the vortex and suddenly, he had a Trevenant! (And a splitting headache after being hurtled through time and space.) While he doesn't entirely trust Trevenant, as it can have some malicious tendencies due to it's Ghost typing and an unhealthy fondness for the Necronomicon, it has proven itself useful, particularly in thickly wooded areas where it has sprung out in surprise attacks using it's Phantom Force against deadites. Sometimes, all it takes is a rev of the chainsaw for Ash to put this spooky pokemon back in line. Moves such as Horn Leech, Leech Seed, Confuse Ray, Wil-o-wisp, Wood Hammer, Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw, Pain Split, and of course, Phantom Force. Pokedex entry for Trevenant, X:: "It can control trees at will. It will trap people who harm the forest, so they can never leave."
Rapidash:: I find Rapidash to be a very graceful and regal pokemon, befitting of a hero. Ash acquired this powerful, fiery stallion during his time spent in the medieval era. Just as stubborn and reckless as it's master, Rapidash unleashes relentless fire blasts at breakneck speeds as it charges through deadite hordes. Ash nearly got himself seriously burned the first time he tried riding this pokemon, though over time, Rapidash became more and more accepting of him and doesn't even flinch when Ash uses his "Boomstick" from it's back. Even after being returned to his own time, Rapidash can still prove it's use, as he can ride it through places he can't drive a car and it's flaming mane and tail make for a fantastic light source in dark places, though this tactic only works if the fiery stallion is able to fit. Pokedex entry from Pearl:: "It has astounding acceleration. From a standstill, it can reach top speed within 10 steps." Utilizing moves such as Fire Blast, Stomp, Flare Blitz, Hidden Power, and Megahorn, along with access to status moves like Morning Sun and Hypnosis, Rapidash, though a relic of a time long gone, is still one of Ash's preferred Pokémon to carry with his team. (Extra fact. While this may be considered a bit of a cheep move here, the other reason why I chose Rapidash was to pay a little homage to one of my other favorite Bruce Campbell roles, Brisco County Jr., more importantly, his absolutely AWESOME horse, Comet.)
Nidoking:: "Hail to the king, baby." That quote actually bumped my original choice for this slot down into the honorable mentions. With a popular quote like that, I though that Ash Williams needed a beast with "King" in it's name. And boy does it live up to it. Unlike the rest of Ash's team who at least hold some amount of respect in one form or another, Nidoking is just unruly and ornery, hardly ever listening to his master's commands and generally does it's own thing when called upon in battle. (Ash still curses the day he found that Moon Stone on a Deadite he killed a few months prior, as when it was just a Nidorino, it was a LOT easier to control.) With access to a multitude of powerful physical and special attacks, packing a hair-trigger temper, this is generally the Pokémon Ash turns to when there ARE no other options. Nidoking has incredibly thick, and durable scales and is covered in sharp, venom-filled spikes, adding to the danger. More then once, Ash has been on the receiving end of this thing's aggression however on the off chance it does choose to obey, it's wrecked havoc on the deadites. In all honesty, Nidoking has more respect for Lucario then it does Ash and the two of them have been working together to get Nidoking under control to make it a more productive member of Team Williams rather than a liability. Packing the ability of Sheer Force and high powered moves such as Earthquake, Poison Jab, Sludgebomb, Ice Beam, Thunder Bolt, Surf, Super Fang, Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, and even Head Smash, this thing is a braisen tank that will literally try to run over anything and anyone! Pokedex entry for Nidoking from ORAS:: "Nidoking's thick tail packs enormously destructive power. With one swing, it can topple a metal transmission tower. Once this Pokémon goes on a rampage, there is no stopping it."
Gardevoir:: This one was selected for a number of reasons. First, the Psychic/Fairy duel typing would serve useful to a fiend slayer like Ash. Gardevoir has an extensive supportive movepool and well as powerful offensive special attacks. The ability to read into the future and sense impending danger to her trainer is a nice skill to have on hand, especially when paired with Lucario's Aura sensory abilities. It's also a VERY feminine looking Pokémon and we all know how Ash Williams gets around a pretty girl! (Google Gardevoir images at your OWN RISK!!) Highly frisky and WAY more sensual then she should be, Gardevoir knows exactly how to get what she wants from Ash, even going as far as to use Attract on him to get her way. Lucario has tried to point this own on numerous occasions, but Ash denies it, thinking it impossible. This Gardevoir is also harboring her own dark secret, as she is insanely jealous of ANY other females coming anywhere near her trainer and once even psychically released his unruly Nidoking to run on a rampage to sabotage a date he was trying to score. Again, Ash thinks that it was just an unlucky fluke. However, on the battlefield, Gardevoir proves her worth by use of Team wide protection, through moves like Reflect, Light Screen, and Safeguard. Other useful moves include the before mentioned Attract, Psychic, Moon Blast, Calm Mind, Draining Kiss, and Thunderbolt. This is the second member of Ash's team that also has the ability to Mega Evolve. Pokedex entry for Gardevoir via HGSS:: "It unleashes psychokinetic energy at full power when protecting a Trainer it has bonded closely with." While she can be petty and jealous at times, Gardevoir knows her duty on the battlefield and has even taken attacks for Ash before.
Aegislash:: Another kingly pokemon, Aegislash is yet another one of Ash's Pokémon acquired during his medieval escapade to reclaim the Necronomicon and keep it out of deadite hands. Although unnerved by the sentient blade and shield at first, This ghost/steel type did not share the same sort of malevolence as Trevenant. In fact, despite the Necronomicon's influence, Aegislash remained highly loyal to Ash, slaughtering deadites by the hundreds alongside him. Highly capable of heavy offense and defense and the ability to recognize a powerful leader, it's possible that this pokemon knows more about Ash then he himself does. Aegislash pokedex entry, Y:: "Apparently, it can detect innate qualities of leadership. According to legend, whoever it recognizes is destined to become king." With moves like King's Shield, Sacred Sword, Shadow Claw, Swords Dance, and Shadow Sneak, this guy is pretty much set. Another mysterious and mystifying Pokémon.
Honorable Mentions::
Machamp:: Originally, this was going to be where Nidoking was, but I decided that I liked Nidoking more overall. Still, with four strong arms and a rippling muscle structure, you can see why I considered this one.
Salamence:: Again, it's big and powerful and people probably wouldn't want to go near it, I'm just not entirely certain where it would fit, exactly.
Staraptor:: Somewhat self-centered yet they can pack a powerful punch, plus the ability of Reckless.
Legendary/Ubers corner:: Keldeo or Ho-oH.
Anyways, I hope that you enjoyed this, as well as Team Krueger/Voorhees. I'm kinda "Team-ed" out now, but maybe next year I'll consider doing a "Team Myers" and "Team Pinhead". Thoughts?
As usual, I do NOT own Pokémon or Evil Dead/Ash Williams. This is STRICKTLY for fan purposes.
