Alrighty then, this is the second in my lineup of "Horror Icons with Pokémon Teams" drawings that I have going. The hockey-masked Crystal Lake Killer himself, Jason Voorhees. Now I had quite a bit of fun putting his team together. While a vast majority probably would had given him enough Water types to make Misty cry with envy, I decided to branch out a little, focusing on Ground and Water, while rounding out with elements of Grass, Dark, and Steel. For Jason, his team puts a heavy emphasis on power, hitting hard and fast but with a little finesse in there for good measure, just like his own personal killing style. (And overall, I'm really, REALLY happy with how Jason turned out!) Like his Dream Demon rival Freddy Krueger, Jason also has two Mega options, Swampert and Gyarados. As suggested by my awesome friend, PebblesinmyPockets, Jason's Keystone is actually in the right side socket of his hockey mask, kind of like a crude eyepatch for his useless blind eye. (My original placement for the Keystone was in the hilt of Jason's machete.)
Gyarados:: Lake of Rage, meet Crystal Lake! (Also a "Lake of Rage" of sorts when you think about it.) This reason alone was why I thought Gyarados would be a good fit for Team Voorhees. Add a horrible, violent temper and the general knack for wrecking s*** up without mercy, and sheer might, you've got yourself a winner! Representing his master's rage in the water, Gyarados hits hard and violently with attacks like Crunch, Aqua Tail, and Ice Fang while also having access to moves like Dragon Dance, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Outrage, and the infamous Hyper Beam. The ability to Mega Evolve makes this particular beast one of the more devastating hard hitters on the team. However, in order to make full use of it's power, Gyarados needs to remain in the lake or another large body of water. Unlike the rest of his team, Jason just lets his Gyarados swim freely in Crystal Lake. (On a side note, between his Gyarados and Tyrantrum, disposing of the bodies of the seemingly endless crops of fresh victims has gotten steadily easier!) Pokedex entry for Gyarados, Alpha Sapphire, "Once Gyarados goes on a rampage, its ferociously violent blood doesn't calm until it has burned everything down. There are records of this Pokémon's rampages lasting a whole month."
Serperior:: Somewhat of the "curve ball" for Jason's team, I figured that a Grass type was in order considering Jason lives in a friggin' forest and Grass is Super Effective against Water! A swift, graceful pokemon, Serperior's ability to stop opponents in their tracks with a single glare and entangle intruders with it's vines has made it a highly valued member of the team. Unsuspecting trespassers don't even realize they're being watched until it's too late. With a rather unique ability, Contrary, which reverses the effects of status based moves, and moves like Leaf Blade, Aqua Tail, Iron Tail, Glare, Vine Whip, wrap, and coil, Serperior is more than happy to assist it's trainer in the capturing and even slaughtering of the endless degenerates that come to desecrate Jason's lands with their filth. Pokedex entry for Serperior, Black, "It can stop its opponents' movements with just a glare. It takes in solar energy and boosts it internally."
Cubone:: I had to pick Cubone for Jason because these two can really relate over their mommy issues. Jason keeps the head of his dead mother around the house and Cubone wears the skull of it's dead mother! These two are a perfect fit together! Cubone serves mostly as a little companion to the giant serial killer, generally helping him with digging and maintaining the tunnels beneath the camp, burying whatever Gyarados and Tyrantrum decide not to eat, and assisting his master in attending to Mother's shrine. However, when given no choice but to enter the fray, the little Ground type can attack quite efficiently with moves like Thrash, Bonemerang, Headbutt, Dig, and Knock Off. Pokedex entry from Omega Ruby, "Cubone pines for the mother it will never see again. Seeing a likeness of its mother in the full moon, it cries. The stains on the skull the Pokémon wears are made by the tears it sheds." Oh yeah, these two can definitely relate on that subject!
Swampert:: When I was first devising what Pokémon to pick for Jason, one of the first ones, after Cubone, was Swampert. The Water/Ground typing fits very well with Jason, a menace both on land or in the water. Plus Swampert is very bulky, strong, and tank-like, just like Mr. Voorhees! Pokedex entry for Swampert, Omega Ruby, "Swampert is very strong. It has enough power to easily drag a boulder weighing more than a ton. This Pokémon also has powerful vision that lets it see even in murky water." Picking Jason's strongest team member may be difficult, but one thing is for certain, Swampert is certainly up there! With it's powerful muscles, this pokemon is more than capable of wrecking destruction and terrorizing unwise teens that venture to the campgrounds. Whether shaking the ground with Earthquake or Earth Power, hurling an Ice Punch, dropping a Rock Slide or Hammer Arm on your head, or just drowning you with Muddy Water, there's no denying the strength and versatility of this Pokémon. Things only get scarier when you realize that this thing can also Mega Evolve! A fun little tidbit, I designed the chain/padlock around Swampart's neck with it's megastone to resemble the chain Jason had around his neck in a few of the later films!
Bisharp:: A Pokemon that knows no pity or mercy was bound to find a spot with the mighty, machete wielding killer! With elements of both Dark and Steel, Bisharp is somewhat the embodiment of Jason's eternal hatred and blood lust. However, Jason normally will only release Bisharp to fight if there is a large group, since it has developed a bit of a rivalry with it's master when it comes to the kill count. Attacks include Sucker Punch, Metal Claw, Iron Head, Night Slash, Low Kick, Pursuit, and Guillotine. Pokedex entry for Bisharp, "The pitiless Pokémon commands a group of Pawniard to hound prey into immobility. It then moves in to finish the prey off." While Jason may not have other Pawniard to boss around, it sometimes chooses to boss around Cubone instead, leading to violent confrontations.
Tyrantrum:: A violent and kingly beast for the Silent Lord of Crystal Lake. If Gyarados represents rage in the water then Tyrantrum is rage on land. Combining the power of Rock/Dragon, when rumors of a machete-wielding mad man aren't enough to keep curious teens, drug addicts, and drunks out, this beast makes a very effective "keep-out" sign. How he got his hands on this formally extinct Pokémon is anyone's guess, perhaps a fossil unearthed in the mine tunnels. There's a farfetched theory by some who speculate that the Tyrantrum may be inhabited by the spirit of Jason's vengeful Mother. This powerful Pokémon utilizes brutal close combat attacks such as Crunch, Stomp, Dragon Claw, and Head Smash whilst also having access to Dragon Dance and Stealth Rock. A few brave trainers ventured into the woods of the abandoned camp in the hopes of finding and capturing the rare beast. Unfortunately, they found her, and her equally brutal trainer! Pokedex entry for Tyrantrum, from Pokémon Y, "Nothing could stop this Pokémon 100 million years ago, so it behaved like a king."
Overall, this was a lot of fun to put together. Here are some Pokémon I considered but didn't quite make the cut. (He-he, Slasher puns... I love em'!)
Haxorus:: I had considered this one, due to the axe-blade tusks, but in the end Tyrantrum took the spot.
Ursaring:: *sigh* By the time I thought of this one I was already half-way through drawing Tyrantrum and didn't want to undo all my work. Now that I think about it though, Ursaring would have been a great representation for Pamela Voorhees, a real "Mama Bear." Maybe another time. Or a redraw somewhere down the line.
Noctowl:: A nice, forest-y pokemon. Foresight might be handy for scouting out potential victims trying to hide, but in the end, I liked some of my other options better.
Sawsbuck:: Again, a deer pokemon may have been fitting, but again, there were others I preferred.
Legendary Options/Uber Corner:: Lugia, Suicune, Terrakion.
Pokémon of course is © Nintendo and Game Freak while Jason Voorhees belongs to NewLine Cinema and Paramount. I drew this strictly for fan purposes.
