Alrighty, 1st in a series of 3. Horror Icons with Pokémon teams. Something that came to mind, I really wanted to cross fandoms, especially to celebrate both upcoming Halloween AND the release of Pokémon Sun/Moon. I have searched for Pokémon/Horror icon art before, but there isn't that much, and what little I could find was a little... eh.... just okay. So, I decided to do my own! Full teams of six, no legendaries.
I know, it's Freddy Krueger and you're probably thinking, "Wait a minute, Freddy Krueger and NO Darkrai?! For shame!" But in all honesty, Darkrai would be too easy and I wanted something different. So, Freddy's team here is mostly built out of supernatural types, Dark, Ghost, and even a Psychic, with Bug/Poison, Fire, and Ice to round it out. These Pokémon are designed to confound and wear you out over time before finishing you off. Mr. Krueger also has two Mega options, Mega Gengar or Mega Houndoom. Of course, his Keystone is mounted on his infamous bladed gauntlet.
Hypno: Instead of Darkrai, I chose Hypno since this Pokémon can put people to sleep with Hypnosis, eat their dreams by use of Dream Eater, inflicts nightmares, and is just overall, creepy! (Plus it looks and acts borderline pedophile!) Pokedex entry from FireRed, "It carries a pendulum-like device. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized." Given Freddy's current occupation and preferred targets, this thing would be a boon to his work and an excellent partner in crime.
Gengar: Gengars are sneaky and nasty Ghost types that get their kicks by scaring the ever loving daylights out of you and casting curses.... no wonder Freddy Krueger got one for himself! Every bit as sinister as it's trainer, Gengar too can hypnotize potential victims, cast Nightmares, eat dreams, confuse victims with the dreaded Confuse Ray, and also has access to powerful moves such as Sucker Punch, Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam, and Psychic. Mega Gengar comes with another bonus, the nifty Special Ability of Shadow Tag, which prevents victims from fleeing! A Pokedex entry for Gengar alla-Pearl, "Lurking in the shadowy corners of rooms, it awaits chances to steal its prey's life force."
Scolipede: Somewhat of a curveball in Freddy's team lineup, as it is out of place with the supernatural theme of the other members. However, the phobia of bugs/insects/creepy, crawly things is a common fear that Freddy has exploited more than once in his lucrative, murderous carrier. So naturally having a giant, bulky, creepy crawly, highly venomous centipede-like monstrosity would appeal to the King of Nightmares! Resistant to pesky fighting types and delighting in slaughtering Fairies, this is one nasty bug that even Raid ain't gonna save you from! With moves like Poison Jab, X-Scissor, Bug Bite, Swords Dance and the special ability of Speed Boost, this Pokémon can get nasty in a hurry. Pokedex entry from Y, "With quick movements, it chases down its foes, attacking relentlessly with its horns until it prevails." Devotion to it's craft, just like it's master!
Sneasel: A quick little weasel with wicked wit and sharp, deadly claws. Not much on defense but what it lacks in bulk, Sneasel more than makes up for with it's quick and precise strikes. (Plus having an Ice type on hand should offer Freddy soothing relief for those painful burns!) Pokedex entry from Pearl, " It is extremely vicious and will not stop attacking until its foe is incapable of moving." These two were made for each other! (On a side note, I drew Sneasel holding up it's paw in the "THIS is God" pose Freddy Krueger took in the first NOES movie!) Moves can include Ice Punch, Metal Claw, and Faint Attack.
Chandelure: This one was recommended to me by my amazing friend PebblesinmyPockets here on DA. Ghost/Fire seemed like a great combination for Freddy to have on his team and this spooky possessed object has access to great support as well as attacking moves. With the Hidden ability of Shadow Tag, Chandelure can assist it's master in assuring that victims cannot escape! Pokedex entry from Omega Ruby, "Being consumed in Chandelure's flame burns up the spirit, leaving the body behind." That's some nightmare fuel right there, a good fit for Mr. Krueger. This pokemon has access to hard hitting attacks like Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, and Solar Beam, along with more strategic moves such as Wil-o-wisp, Hex, Pain Split, and Confuse Ray.
Houndoom: What better companion for the burnt Dream Demon then a Hell Hound? Fire/Dark is a perfect match for the sinister serial killer. Houndoom would probably be the strongest member of Freddy's team and keeps the others in line by throwing it's weight around and asserting it's dominance. This thing is vicious and knows no mercy, eager to put Freddy's crop of victims through the same pain and suffering that his master had to endure. If one is unlucky enough to be burned by Houndoom's fiery breath, the pain will NEVER go away. Houndoom employs many powerful attacks such as Crunch, Sucker Punch, Flamethrower, and Solar Beam. Pokedex entry for Houndoom, from LeafGreen, "If you are burned by the flames it shoots from its mouth, the pain will never go away." Freddy's Houndoom can also Mega Evolve and is one of his preferred beasts to use in battle.
Other Pokémon I had considered.
Ninetailes:: While beguiling and access to a wide, supernatural themed movepool, overall, Ninetales just seemed too elegant and glamorous for a guy like Freddy Krueger.
Honchkrow:: Similar stylish headwear, but I likes some of the other options better.
Haunter:: I actually had a hard time deciding between Haunter or Gengar, since I love them both! Haunter's got the disembodied hands floating in front of it but in the end, it's evolved form won by way of having both a Megalution and that fiendish grin.
Spinarak/Ariados:: Again, fear of bugs/spiders is a common one, but ultimately Scolipede's bigger size and higher stat base won me over. However, could work as a replacement/swap.
Rattata/Raticate:: Same idea above as the fear of insects, a ton of people are afraid of mice/rats.
Seviper/Ekans/Arbok:: Lots of people are terrified of snakes too!
Zorroark:: Zorroark is tricky and a master of illusions, just like Freddy is. Sadly, I didn't want his team to become too canine oriented or too lopsided to one type. However, it is likely that Freddy does have one of these wily tricksters in reserve, possibly as a swap-in for Chandelure or Sneasel.
Legendary Options/Uber Corner:: Darkrai, (there, happy? lol,) Giratina, (Altered or Origin form).
So, what sort of Pokémon teams do you think various horror characters would have? Feel free to post below in the comments. I've already gotten two more of these in the works.
Pokémon of course is © Nintendo and Game Freak while Freddy Krueger is © Wes Craven and New Line Cinema. I'm making no money off of this, this is for fan purposes ONLY! So just relax and enjoy it!
