Today while I'm at work, some guy in his teens came in and payed for his meal using cash, but one of the coins he used was this 1882 silver dollar. And he asked me if it was a dollar. I told him yes, and did his order. After that, I traded my own dollar for this bad boy. Made of pure silver, this thing is worth way more than a dollar.

Right now silver is about $15.53 an ounce, it's been fairly low for the past five years or so. The Morgan silver dollar, as well as the Peace dollar that replaced it in 1921, contain .77 troy ounces of silver, so the silver content of the coin is about $11.95. But being a US coin, it also has numismatic value. The average price of a morgan dollar in that condition right now is about $22 on the low side, $24 on the high side.
That is good to know. I'll absolutely be keeping it then. 22-24 dollars are not worth it when I could keep this epic keep sake.
Also, the picture was taken with my Xperia XA2 using its 23megapixel camera. With a slight zoom to make the coin take up more of the frame without overshadowing the coin out of the light.

I'd absolutely keep it, you found yourself a genuine piece of treasure and history! I found my first Morgan dollar when I was metal detecting on the site of an old fairgrounds in my city, where the old sidewalk had been torn up. It's amazing to get to hold a valuable bit of history in your hands, and wonder just who has had this in their pocket or purse since it was minted over one hundred years ago! http://puu.sh/BbKKS/ec8f9fd559.jpg
Dude, that thing looks like it could be over $50! Amazing coin!

Wow! As a coin collector, I can tell you without any doubt you in fact got a VF- or F+ (we should check the other side of the coin) Morgan Silver Dollar 1882.
That is a bit uncommon to find in more than VF. You in fact have a miracle in your hands if that's the overall look! (please, PLEASE not try to clean it).
Protect it. I want to recommend you to buy a capsule if you plan to storage it.

(You can look for a cheaper option, but try the capsule to be 38.5mm, max 40mm)

As far as I know. The guy used it to pay for a mcchicken and then I traded a dollar of my own into the till of the register I was using. But I figured that he had rummaged his house for spare change and found that in some drawer or something and decided to see if it was still usable as money.
