It's that time again - yes, we're nearly ready to release the Dragon Adventure III Kaleidoscopia coloring book into the wild! This book contains some of my other fantasy drawings, as well as a bunch of new dragons.
The drawing here is one of several cover illustrations we tried out. The publisher wanted me to use gold, red, and brown as my color foci, so this is what popped out. The left-hand illustration is my first attempt, but I wanted to see what it would look like with some contrasting blue accents. That result is on the right. It turned out to be the one that jingled the publisher the most, so the right-hand design is what will be on the cover.
Colored with Photoshop.

I just hopped on to check my messages for the morning, saw this on the front page and went, "Oh that looks like something Rachael would draw," and wouldn't you know!!
The blue accents were a good idea, they really draw the eye down across the dragon. I love the purple bits at the base of the scales on his face too.
Congrats on the new book release as well!!
