Someone I have wanted to meet for a long time was Hania from our Thursday Prompt group... and here we are. Sometimes it's just about rubbing elbows in the flesh.

I do so love my baked beans! I remember my grandfather having a 'discussion' with my step mother about beans. Being an old navy man from WWI, he said he had beans almost every meal. That got me to thinking - well of course! They had no refrigeration so they needed dried food stuffs - like beans!

I only saw them offered at a couple of diners in the area. One morning a few years back, they had a tray the at the Lion's Club buffet breakfast at the firehouse in town. Then they showed up at the KofC breakfast at the firehouse. Hmm, same guy behind the tray -- he made 'em, from scratch, too. Then they made an appearance at the American Legion breakfast. Now hardly a breakfast goes by where they don't offer baked beans. Not the Willimantic Elks, though. Their tables are already crammed from end to end; they don't even offer pancakes (good French toast, though).
One of our local churches puts on a superb fish fry every Friday between Lent and Good Friday. They don't actually put it on Good Friday, but the local Polish Home is a pretty good second.
