They are about as venomous as a bee in the most cases. I think for a healthy person the most potent tarantula venom can cause hours and days of pain and maybe mess up your circulation a bit, but there is not a single record of a person dying because of a tarantula bite. ONly if you are allergic to bees and wasps it would be vise to take more caution.
ANd its not rude, I think it's a good thing when people ask questions and learn that they aren't as bad as media wants us to believe

actually the general name of tarantulas in Germany are Vogelspinnen. Which literrally means Birdspiders.
The English word tarantula is actually wrong. The scientific name tarantula refers to a European wolf spider species that can actually be dangerous. Settlers from Southern Europe saw these big 'tarantulas' and thought they must be the same as those dangerous ones from their home countries

I know but there is a species of Tarantula's literately called Goliath Birdeaters. They bury themselves lightly under the sand, and when a bird flies low enough it will leap from it's hiding spot, grab the bird, cling to it, pull it down and devour it.
It's the biggest tarantula in the world, found in the northern parts of South America.

Mexican Red Knees are docile due to their non hostile nature, when they feel threaten, they will rub their hind legs on their tail which loosen their hairs on their body which are coated in non lethal venom, flinging it at you. It will numb the parts it hits as it scurries away to hide. They rarely bite people unless you really scare them.
Aye, it's been a while, Hairs and barbs. same to me but yeah, even thought it was defensive, something about it was cute. Like using their little body as a catapult, I got hit with these barbs. my hands felt like they went to sleep. Like when you lay on your feet the wrong way and it feels like you walk on needles? That's what it felt like.
well first of theyshould always be concodered wild animals and arent animals for much handling and petting. some species are calmer and more docile than others. than again, you always have your psycho spiders or chilled dudes regardles the species. you get to know your pet tarantula best through raising them from when they are very young. and then again, they can actually change their personality after molting XD
It's hard to say and compare. I would still say Mexican Red knee or Brachypelm Smithi, Very common and well known. These spiders are considered the easiest to keep as pets due to the fact of their defense mechanism. If you are new to raising spiders as pets, you are bound to make a mistake and a few non lethal barbs is more easy to treat then a nasty spider a bite. Grammostola tend to have territorial habits. Like changing their food bowl and giving them new water can intimidate them and lift their front legs for a quick nip. And well, allergies must be taken into consideration. Really hard to say
I have a Grammostola pulchripes and pulchra.
My pulchripes is a real sweetheart. Loves trying to escape but was very lovely to handle and put back into its enclosure.
My Mabel from this pick here...she is very...I wouldnt say aggressive but self-confident. And HUNGRY. She attacks the water when I add fresh, thinking its food XD

Hehe, well I meant as in terms of someone who is new to raising tarantulas. By the sounds of it you been raising them for a bit and have some experience, I am speaking in the mindset of someone who completely new to this and have no experience. I mean to us? Raising a grammostola could be a cinch and real rewarding experience, but to someone who is just getting their feet wet. They are bound to make a mistake and if they piss off their pet? It's best to get some barbs then two fangs. But I am just adding the view point of someone who is completely clueless and might want to raise a spider. Even then, the few Mexican red knees I had were real cutie patooties and had hearts of gold. Except for when Sam got his tail ruffled from a few moves and flung his barbs at me due to the new apartment.
I dont have that much experients. I have a few species and read A LOT online from other owners, in forums, videos etc.
I too had the opinion that Brachypelma species were the best start (my first one was a Brachypelma emilia) but I dunno...Grammostolas seemed to me so chill.
ANother good beginner species is the Chromatopelma. Fantastic eater, makes beautiful webbings, is beautiful itself. <3

Oh man, Chroma! I always wanted a blue tarantula, I suppose you own one? lucky! I live in the norther part of North America near Canada, so getting Tarantula pets is rare unless it's common species like the mexican red knee. So getting a Chromatopelm Blue Tarantula is impossible!
thats like a whole family of spiders... XD
