The 747-300...probably the famous "lost models," as the other cancelled plans (-500X, -600X, -700X) still looked pretty similar to the regular old 747-400.

I'm not sure...if the economy stagnates for an extended period of time, that might kill it, but a second stage of economic collapse would definitely do it in and Boeing is just going to focus on a service life extension project for the -400 and will probably pin its hopes on the Y3. If petroleum prices climb and stay at high levels for a while, the Y3 is probably going to be a blended-wing trijet. (Flying Auditorium!)

Arguably, I think that the blended-wing aircraft is a good idea...then the airline will be all but obligated to give everyone a better in-flight entertainment system, and the multiple aisles (even on small blended body planes) will help with boarding.

Exactly. Sometimes older designs have some advantages...although I would like to see double-ended boarding on 737s.

Jetways that extend to both the fore and aft doors. I remember seeing it in a magazine somewhere.

I'm not sure if it's ever been deployed, but it would sure be nice...much like the double-decked and multiclass boarding on 747s and other widebodies.
