Akamu was born into a family where all the men were a part of police, either as officers or detectives. He became known for his attention to detail, which helped solve cases that were originally thought hopeless. As such, he was able to quickly climb the ranks and become Kona’s youngest detective at 26.
A year after his promotion, Akamu volunteered for security detail at a local surfing competition due to a lack of new cases. At some point, he ended up chasing after a purse-snatcher in a pursuit that eventually went along the shoreline. Akamu soon caught up to the thief in a struggle that went into the water. The criminal attempted to drown him before running off with the stolen purse. Luckily, he was quickly rescued by a young woman named Mia Taylor, an Eastern Wolf and a surfing competitor. They talked and got to know each other until it was Mia’s turn to compete. She ended up winning the competition with Akamu cheering her on.
Even though the contest was over, Mia opted to stay in Kona, having taken a liking to Akamu. They would meet up semi-regularly before going on several date nights. After dating for 3 years, they got married and had a son, Magnus, 2 years after that. They became a happy family, but it would not last.
Akamu’s investigations made him some very dangerous enemies and he feared for the safety of his wife and son. Reluctantly, he sent them off on a jet bound for Japan to stay with acquaintances. Several days afterward, he was informed that the jet Mia and Magnus were on went down into the ocean near the Japanese coast. Consumed by heartbreak and grief, he spent many nights crying alone in a house that now felt empty. It wasn’t long before he was constantly taking more cases and undercover work, unable to face the emotions that family home now brought him. Now, 13 years later, he’s almost never home, always going right from one undercover job to the next. He cannot pause, or else relive the gloom that plagues his heart.
