that can be any animal really. but only if stressed or they sense a problem with the baby. so far so good. haven't really had issues with eating the babies since I am very careful with my females and they are all healthy with good, pedigree back grounds

hairless rat actually. It's a type, there are no breeds of rats really. Her mother was hairless and her father carried the hairless gene. The father of this litter doesn't carry it so none of her babies will be hairless. She carries dumbo and he was dumbo so about 50% of the babies will be dumbos as well.

I thought that hairless rats weren't really good mothers and usually have trouble feeding their babies.

some do, yes. Tilly's grandfather was the first hairless in his line. literally. So they are a healthier strain then most. Tilly's mother was hairless and a fabulous mother. And so far, all of Tilly is keeping them clean and fed. :D
