the good and bad of living in Amish country... some are nice to their animals. Some... many... are not.

two major things wrong with the lower hors 1) the weight, a good hundred or more pounds under weight 2) see that strap going form the neck back? sort of pulling it's head high up? well that makes the horse prance prettier... but it's much much harder for the horse to pull weight with it that way. bad for it's back, neck, etc. They say they are pias, and yet they want their horse to strain itself just to look pretty. so vein. so bad for the horse. and the under weight combined with that = cruelty
it's actually popular in a lot of groups. especially with the younger generations of Amish and Mennonite. I've lived around them for 16 years and... there are some nice ones, but I really... just don't like most. A month after moving here we bought a basket of apples from a Mennonite farm stand. The apples on top were good... the rest were rotten. So much for honest. That pretty much set the stage for how a lot of them are around central PA.

Oh god, the same thing happened to me at school- I was looking through the apples and the ones on top didn't look good, so I picked one from the bottom. It looked perfectly fine, but when I bit into it, the whole thing was brown and rotten inside. Needless to say, much spitting and "patooey"s commenced.
Thankfully, the head chef gave me a fresh one free of charge.

I really hate people like this :/ The top one looks like it's actually enjoying the work and looks to have good conformation..
As for the bottom one...They don't even give the horse the chance to put it's head down and give it it's all. Reminds me of the carriage scene in Black Beauty. And is it just me or does it seem too thin and scraggly...
