Red Balloon Clown: Nightmares
Darkseed's opening cinematic: Nightmares
Head in box in Myst's Mechanical Age: Scared the crap outta me
Iron Helix: Waking nightmare
Honorable Mention - the boy in GADGET, for most twisty NPC
---
I own the novelization of T7G, and it's box sits proudly on my shelf, next to my copy of Alice: An Interactive Museum: $300 on eBay, but it goes for much worse on Amazon.
Essentially if you were a first person prerendered adventure (BURN:CYCLE, Titanic: Adventure Out of Time), I love you forever.
As far as LucasArts goes, it's a toss up between FOA and MI2 for me. But it's really all good.
---
See if you can't find a clip on YouTube of the balloon clown in German, to close the circle.

I LOOOOOVE the flapped over ear!
Also... This makes me want to play an adventure game.
I beat Myst for the first time (took me 12 years if you count the fact that I was 6 the first time I played it) a few months ago... On the iPod Touch of all things...
And I played about half of Riven and beat (via strategy guide) Myst 4. Allow me to assure you, I hate Myst. I assume that "puzzles" are meant to be solved, but Myst teaches you that puzzles aren't meant to be solved, they're meant to rape you. And leave you crying. And turning off the computer in shame that you can't... Figure... out... HOW TO TURN THE WHEEL EXACTLY AROUND ONE TIME TO THE LEFT THEN TWICE TO THE RIGHT IN LESS THAN TWO SECOND FUCK UGHHHH...
I do have Indiana Jones: FoA and the King's Quest Collection on Steam... I beat King's Quest 4 with the help of my Grandma (Myst is "fun" to her), but I was like 10 at the time, so doesn't count. I wanna beat dis shit legitimately.
I also really enjoyed Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Flower, Sun, Rain on the DS and I'm hoping that means, combined with the Monkey Island new release, that there may be a rebirth of the genre.
Can anyone recommend a good... I guess surrealist Adventure game? Sorta Lovecraftian? I'm a big fan of that stuff... Not scary enough to make you piss your pants, but intense enough to make it interesting. And don't recommend that crappy Sherlock Holmes game... Ughhhh...

I remember years ago, Gabe from Penny Arcade writing about Tycho taking a paper towel tube, rubber-banding scissors to it, and declaring it the dark spur, to show readers how impossible it is to work with Tycho. All these years later, that's the first thing I think of reading "Dark Spore".
