There's no need to be afraid of this spider. The NSU Spider was the first Western production car in the world to be powered by a Wankel rotary engine. The car's owner was nowhere in sight, so I don't know the model year, but according to Wikipedia, the Spider was produced by NSU Motorenwerke AG from 1964 to 1967.

They're certainly a rarity. Even so, this is the second I've ever seen. The other was this model 1200: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21329806/
Thanks for the comment and the fave.

rather fascinating reading about the history... :)
i like this bit [emphasis added]:
Gerald C. Meyers, AMC's vice president of the engineering product group, suggested that AMC should buy the engines from Curtiss-Wright before developing its own Wankel engines, and predicted a total transition to rotary power by 1984.[20] Plans called for the engine to be used in the AMC Pacer, but development was pushed back.[21][22] American Motors designed the unique Pacer around the engine.
regretfully, i think infernal combustion engines will be gone before the whirligig engine will ever reach perfection!

True the rotary engine while having some strong points don't do well in emissions perhaps from it's tendency to be a slight oil burner.
Although Electric motors are rotaries in a way :3
Mazda also put the Rotary in a trimmed up version of the Holden Premier, though due to the Wankel's lower initial torque characteristics it was an act of purist optimism to push such a bulk of a car. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Roadpacer_AP
