The chicken pen isn't lizard-proof, it seems.
Last summer, I put some of my uneaten porridge on the chicken food plate and 3 minutes later heard some commotion, so went to check and found this blue-tongued lizard nomming the chicken's breakfast.
This explains the disappearing water. These guys have quite an appetite. They also steal food from the cat, which has given up defending it.
