(1989) By the spring of 1989 I was starting to go to regional fandom conventions more often. I had also just rediscovered the motion picture The Road Warrior on home video. I was impressed by the movie's production design and went about constructing a good re-creation of Mel Gibson's costume to wear for some fun at the cons. By now I had a full time job and could also afford to buy my first car. I chose a used 1974 Chevrolet that had been modified in the late 1970s with performance parts for drag racing. The car really looked like this. It certainly fit the character's costume and was fun to drive. About this time I started drawing my furry self-image as a scruffy dog/wolf mutt thing.
