I did this pose when thinking about "Hmm, what if someone wants to assault me in a train ride but I had a sword?". So this stance came to mind and I think about how practical it is. The blade being close enough to you that a close quarter assault can be pushed, but the stance allows some lunging before anything is pulled out.
