A closer look at each critter featured in my new Redwall size chart! Here is an absolute unit.
The best Redwall badger, IMO, is of course the original Constance (although Sunflash the Mace was also pretty good). I feel that badgers in particular start to get generic as the series progresses, just your token strong bloodwrath dudes who are there to ensure the woodlanders win, and that's a shame. There should be more to them than that! Maybe this guy is a poet in his spare time, or secretly enjoys interpretive dance. You decide!

Oh yeah, I found that with a lot of redwall the characters were defined by their species more than any unique personality traits. Even as a kid I was kind of annoyed that they didn't go deeper or show more of the characters. Moral ambiguity and variety is awesome!
This is a particularly great badger, and trust me I have a discerning snout when it comes to badgers. Kudos and +watch :0)

Your username looks familiar, weren't you a seal before? (there are also some seals sprinkled throughout my gallery if you like that sort of thing.)
Yeah, that's part of why the early books are best, before all the critters could fall into the same tired archetypes. It would have been nice to see more badgers like Sunflash who just wanted to be a farmer when there weren't baddies to fight!

Oh yeah, Blackwell was a harbor seal before, a sort of selkie to be specific. But I branched off the selkie stuff to a new character and novel I'm writing and decided to just embrace being a badger. Badger has always been my spirit animal so it's nice to show that a bit more on the outside as well :)
I'm going to have to delve deeper in your gallery, I really enjoy your work I just feel too polite to favebomb people :P
Oh yeah, I love Sunflash so much, probably my favourite of the badgers. I also like Lord Brocktree a lot! I've roleplayed as the latter quite a few times, haha. And I have a location in my writing, the Brocktree Inn as a tribute to him. Good times :)
