This was horrendous... it was like watching a car crash about to happen, knowing that something awful was about to take place and there being nothing you could do to prevent it. Diego continued to watch the screens, as the ORG representatives and the Rewritten discussed their plans, they were getting along all too well and it unnerved him to his very core.
Something tore him from his trance however, the sound of screeching metal in a not too far corridor made the group jump.
"That sounds like the south gate..." Jinjer commented, looking somewhat concerned. They'd all been so involved in watching the meeting that they hadn't been watching their own backs.
"No one knows that we're here exactly, Ember? Go check it out?" Plasia asked, also seeming quite worried, despite her physique.
"Ember got dis!" She smiled, weaving her way out from under Plasia's boobage and grabbing a crudely made club which was leaning against a far wall.
Ember wasn't particularly fearful as she knew this area extremely well and felt quite at home, although the quiet conversation behind her that rapidly disappeared as she walked off did make her feel somewhat isolated.
The south corridor was a short walk away over from strategically stashed rubble and was locked at its end by a large metal grate. Although the grate had a hinge across the bottom, which was padlocked, it wasn't the grate opening that made the noise. Someone had just bent the metal forcefully and walking straight through. The room with the grate had some pillars and water pumping equipment it, all out of use and heavily damaged by the history of the vessel, two damaged lights were all that lit up this room and Ember herself knew that there were plenty of places for someone to hide in here if they wanted to.
Upon inspecting the damaged grate, it was obvious that it was forced from the outside to gain entry inwards, Ember scratched her head as she wondered who came in and how to repair it. She also pondered why THIS grate in particular was targetted, she had made sure that this room was far enough away to not be heard from in their main quarters and it was one in a hundred identical grates in the maintenance shaft it connected to. She'd done a rather good job of making it look unappealing too, many Nodes had come this way to see if they could locate the group and none of them had bothered with this one, that and the grating was too heavy for a Node to damage like this...
The more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she became. A hand touched her shoulder and she span on the spot, club at the ready to lunge but only saw Jinjer who was looking quite puzzled.
"You ok Ember...?"
"You scare me! Ember going the investigation of crime line and is not sure why this happen! Shhhhh... go tell the others, Ember thinks we may need to leave this place..."
"You think its that bad? We haven't seen anything on any of our local cams... maybe they just left?"
"Noes! Ember sure... something not right! Go tell Daygo, we need to leave..."
"Ok Ember, i'll be back in a couple of minutes. Just... be careful OK?"
Ember nodded and turned her attention back to the grate. Feeling around its edges and climbing down briefly into the walkway it connected to, just to have a peak around it. It was completely silent, nothing stirred or moved, although whilst she was down there, she did hear a slight thud coming from the room, it didn't sound like a fight though, or anything to really worry about, it was likely Plasia bumping her head on something as she wasn't used to her new found height.
A few more minutes passed, Ember continuing to look around the maintenance way, looking around to see if any other grates had been damaged. She had her suspicitions confirmed when no other grates were broken and she quickly returned back to her friends, passing through the water pump room and corridor without issue. When she got back though, something was wrong. Diego and Plasia were still watching the screens and Jinjer wasn't with them.
"Ember? You and Jinjer need help?" Diego asked, as he noticed the puzzled expression on Embers face.
"Why you no pack? We gotsa go!"
"Pack?" Plasia asked, placing a hand warmly on Diego's shoulder, it was very obvious she had strong feelings for him still, just from her gestures. "Is something wrong?"
"Yesh! Ember told Jinjer to come back to telltale you both! Ember no like this! Vandalism! Broken seal! Only here! We must leave!"
"Jinjer hasn't come back, she went to help you and thats the last we saw of her..." Plasia paused, suddenly becoming aware that they may be in serious danger. "... Diego? What should we do?"
"Ok. Jinjer can't have gone far, its only a short walk to pump room, Ember, was there anyone in the pump room at all? I want you to go back, search it quickly and once you're happy its clear, close and lock the door behind you. Plasia, we need to get our stuff together and get ready to go. I know its a bit early for our plan, but if we've been found, we're in serious trouble."
The group nodded and leapt into action, with Ember returning back to the pump room once more, she licked the end of the club, leaving a thick lash of saliva over it and whacked it against the floor, causing a spark of light as the saliva caught on fire and burned brightly. She searched every corner of the room and couldn't find anything... Satisfied with her search, she went back into the corridor before and slammed the heavy metal door shut with a loud clack, shaking some dust free from the ceiling and pipes around her. She was about to walk off when she heard a loud crash come from the water pump room she'd just left, it sounded like something fell down. Perhaps she should have just left it, but there was something in her calling her to open the door again. And she did just that, clutching her club close, she yanked the door open and crept back inside, it looked like some of the ceiling plating had fallen, shook loose by the impact of the door.
Suddenly, a large object caught her eye, hanging from the ceiling in a dark corner of the room, concealed by shadow, it was hard to make out.
"Who dere! Show face! Misery!!!"
She yelled, inching towards the cloaked object. The closer she got however, the less threatening it looked and whoever it was was clearly not in a fighting position, they were hanging limply from the ceiling, their leg caught up in the twisted metal of the ruined pipework. Finally, Ember's torch/club got close enough to shine some light...
It was Jinjer... She appeared to be completely unconscious and was just hanging from the ceiling. Ember quickly checked her over and she was mostly unharmed, expect for what looked like a small cut of some sort on her neck. Alarmingly, the large door that caused all this slammed behind her closed, locking her in the water pump room along with Jinjer. She could hear the confused muffled tones and Diego and Plasia but realised that whoever did that, was in this room with her...
She ducked instinctively, feeling something come towards her and indeed, something whipped past her head and embedded in the wall behind her with a loud crack... it was a metal railing, ripping from the grate by brute force, barely missing Jinjer... She turned but still couldn't see what was attacking her, she brought the flaming club to her face and spat through the flames, causing a small flaming blob to sail across the room and briefly illuminate all the dark corners behind the pillars for just a second...
She saw a pair of feet, barely, from the shadows, between the pillars opposite her, as she focused her eyes, more of the figure became visible. This one was standing and awake.
"No hide! I see you, beast! Toffee curdler!"
The figure growled and stepped forward, showing itself. It was some sort of... miniature Ink look-alike... Standing at 5,5ft tall, with narrow golden eyes that were looking at Ember with pure ferocity. A set of 4 spindly tentacles were scraping the pillars around her anxiously, awaiting a chance to strike. She was thick with muscle, chesty and well endowed.
"You hurt Jinjer?! Stash her in ceiling?! Break grate! Name!" Ember demanded, holding her club towards the corrupted czarite angrily. Yet the intruder did not speak, she instead launched herself at Ember, swinging a fast punch towards her which the girl ducked under, slapping a tentacle out the way with her club.
The intruder was quick to respond, throwing more punches at Ember, one striking her side hard, despite the pain, she fought on, blocking and dodging what she could before throwing all her weight into a single clubbed strike on the intruders cheek, the club found its mark and thunked into the aliens head but instead broke on impact, sending wooden splinters and the embedded metal fixings tumbling across the tiled floor. The aggressor growled again, spitting out a bit of blood and continuing her assault. Ember noticed that the tips of her tentacles had spikes on them which she was trying to impale her with, she soon realised that this corrupted was far too tough for her to take on as her on strikes did nothing to phase her at all.
She tried to duck away but felt the intruder intercept her, pushing her against a wall and head butting her viciously. She reeled back in pain, screaming loudly as the intruder drove her knee into Ember's side and threw her to the floor. The banging around had raised the alarm though and the heavy metal door was once again hauled open by Plasia, who came to her friends help immediately.
The attacker growled again and throw herself at Plasia, latching on the girls torso and hurling punches at her face and neck, they locked tentacles, preventing either from using theirs on the other and Plasia struggled to hold the vicious little creature back. Just as Plasia was starting to struggle though, Ember quickly leapt to her aid, grabbing the attackers tentacles from behind and retraining them, allowing Plasia to use her own to aid her defence, she quickly bound the attackers limbs and managed to find enough strength to hold the wriggling creature back.
She held her close and Ember did the same, effectively sandwiching her between them. As Plasia got to look at her face though, she noticed something a little too late.
Although the attackers limbs were restrained, her tongue was not... her tongue had its own barb on the end and it stabbed right into Plasia's neck in less than a second, Ember watched in horror from behind as her tongue seemed to churn and pump something into Plasia, causing her to quickly go limp and slump to the floor. The aggressor pulled herself free of Plasia's now loose grip and threw Ember off her shoulders.
"Plasia..." Ember sobbed, crawling back to her feet. "You hurt my friend..." She looked like she was about to launch into an assault, but all she found was a swift punch to the stomach, the attacker wrapped her arm around Ember's head as she hunched over to drove her head into the floor, then wrapping around her, hugging Ember's limbs to her body, marking the end of Ember's fight. Just to ensure she stayed down, a couple of tentacles drove their barbs into her body and pumped their toxin into her too.
The remaining Czarite stood up and from the 3 beaten fighters and stretched herself out, before continuing her march torwards the main room. Where upon Diego was packing a couple of rucksacks with food and equipment. He heard the figure approaching and turned with a smile that soon turned sour as he realised he did not know who was climbing through the door.
"I-"
"Just surrender." The alien interrupted. "I really don't care for your words lizard. Just give it up and come with me."
"Uhm..."
"I've already beaten your friends, you've got no help on this ship now. just. give. it. up." She growled once more, stepping closer to the lizard, who was remaining fixed in place.
He got a good look at her now that she was in the lighter main room and not skulking around in the corridors. She definitely looked like Ink, white golden eyes, although narrow and slit like, strong muscles, big boobs and the rest... although her limbs had a red tint to them at their ends and her tentacles were barbed, Diego assumed she was some sort of experiment Leech had made, he didn't know how Leech was doing any of this still.
"So i'm guessing your Ink's sidekick or something. How'd you find us?"
"Slowly. That Ember girl is tough to avoid but I worked it out. You coming? Or do I have to knock you out?" She flicked a tentacle towards him aggressively as a warning.
He sighed and extended a hand towards her for the alien to take. She smiled in responce and grabbed his hand, turned around to lead him out the room but when she began to pull him, he didn't move. She turned back, looking slightly confused to see him smirking.
She grabbed hold of his wrist tightly and tugged hard and once again, he didn't move an inch.
"You know. I'm getting pretty sick and tired of being bossed around and treated like some kind of toy by your kind. Before all this happened-" A snarl escaped his mouth briefly as he spoke, his anger rising. "-Before your bloody kind swamped over my life and ruined any chance I had of being normal, I was a damned Zion Knight. I fought and killed and survived in some of the most hostile situations I could ever have fathomed."
She pulled again, digging her feet in and wreching his arm but all she did was flail around as once more, the lizard didn't move.
"I spilt more litres blood than you've seen people! I've pulled my dying friends from burning wreckages, i've fought more battles than you could possibly imagine. I used to have a back bone! It was robbed from me when I decided that violence should only be used as a last resort." He raised his voice again, his hairs standing on end as he prepared himself.
"I am DONE being bossed and shunted around by creatures like you. You've interupted my plans, hurt my friends and now you're demanding that I obey you?!" He yanked her arm towards him and she stumbled, caught off guard by his sudden strength. He pressed his face right up against hers, barely able to control his temper as he growled through grit teeth.
"I'm giving you one chance to walk away, or so help me i'll put you in the ground."
The intruder paused for a second before mouthing "Make me".
He reeled back and headbutted her square in the face, knocking her off balance a little and she let go on his arm, but she was hardly wounded as she quickly readied herself and raised her barbed tentacles, ready to strike.
There was an old rage coursing through him though, one he'd buried and attempted to forget for a long time. The kind of rage that drives a person to kill without thought and treat life like its just a resource. Perhaps is was being on this damn ship that brought it back, he didn't really know. He roared loudly, psyonic energy reinforcing his skin to an armour like sheen.
He lunched at her throat, her tentacles stabbing at him but unable to cut through his barrier, his hand seized her throat strongly and a fist cracked her between the eyes, he slammed his fist into her stomach a couple of times and she traded back, adopting the same idea, grabbing his throat too and punching his sides, the two began a brutal boxing duel, laying into each-others bodies, neither seemingly particularly phased for the first few blows, Surj felt like she was punching a wall though, as that psyonic barrier did its job perfectly.
She changed tactics and tried to restrain his limbs with her tentacles, he instead lifted her by pulling an arm up between her legs and another over her shoulder and slammed her into a wall, dropping her to the ground with a loud thud and driving his knee into her face as she tried to recover.
Spitting out a mouthful of blood like slime, she threw him off with all her strength and staggered to a fighting stance again, shaking off her injuries.
"I know I can't break that skin barrier, not until it runs out... but I know what isn't protected!" She laughed, charging at him once more and attempting to grapple onto his torso, wrapping herself around his tighting to bind his arms to his chest. He opened his mouth for just a second to respond but realised what she was doing.
Her own tongue was darting towards his open mouth, attempting to stab the back of his throat with her barb! But he bite down hard, catching her tongue mid-way, just before it made contact. She squealed loudly and pushed back, trying to free her tongue and fell back suddenly as more hot blood slime filled her mouth. He'd bitten straight through it. He gagged a little at the feeling of the limp lump sitting in his maw and spat it out, his teeth and tongue stained now.
She scrambled to her feet angrily, her blood now coating her chest and dripping down her front in large quantities. But she still didn't back down, instead, she screeched in pure fury and lunged at him once more, he quickly side-stepped and turned to face her, following up with slug to the jaw and yet another knee to the face.
His vision was fading to red, anger was taking hold of him again, it was like he wasn't in control of his own body, he could just feel the dull sensation of force on his limbs every time he struck his aggressor, everything was echoing and becoming difficult to hear with a dull ringing replacing all other noise, he stopped relentlessly beating on her for a few seconds, stumbling around as his head continued to spin and his senses dulled, he looked at his hands to see them completely drenched in gore and blood, the heat building in his chest was unbearably hot, he just wanted to scream and let it out.
Through the haze however, a spectre like figure appeared. Through the sea of red heat and blood gore, a white apparition suddenly manifested, bringing a coolness and a clarity with it. He could barely make the figure out in his blurry haze, it was speaking but the words were just impossible to make out, it came a little closer, stretching an arm out towards him.
Before he could interact with it though, his aggressor returned, lashing out angrily, her words still lost to his deary state, despite his mind being so clouded, he responded with earth shattering force, landing seamless punches, the red glaze returned to his vision once more and he began his relentless pummelling of her again, knocking her to the ground, mounting her torso and beating her face and neck until he could barely see through the anger and resentment.
He felt yet another cool breeze over his back, blowing away the red mist once more, just enough so he could see again, he turned to face the image, who was closer again this time, holding its hand out towards him. He reached back slowly, stretching his blood soaked hand out. They touched for just a second before a near deafening screech pulled him back into reality in an instant. The heat in his body faded and melted away, his vision cleared up and the dull ringing in his ears was silenced instantaneously.
He was standing in the same room the fight had begun, in silence. Whoever the attacker was, she was currently laying still on the floor, her blood was lashed thickly across the walls and pooling beneath her head as she laid in a crumpled heap, all the fight beaten out of her. He'd really hoped he'd grown out of that by now...
His thoughts turned to his little squad of not so little aliens and how his plans had suddenly become a lot more complex, that spectre that broke his haze had only said one thing to him and he knew he couldn't just leave any-more.
It asked for help.

I like how, in a way, Diego's biggest weakness is that deep down, he's a good guy who cares for his friends, which is what brought him into all of this. Fairly often, he sacrifices himself to protect others, negociates with the enemy and all, but SOMETIMES he rises and kicks some butt !
And it's super satisfying to watch.
