People don't get it, magic is life energy in your body that basically messes with the world around you. Your energy circuits flow threw your body, allowing you to aim your magic. Also the fire is magically generated as in it's using your magic as fuel so it doesn't really burn the user that cast it. Also with enough training you can even absorb a fire blast directly by dispersing the magic thrown at you.
