It kind of does. While it doesn't have to be photo realistic, even the tooniest of cartoons have to have some form of verisimilitude. They have to have the same bone structure whether they're fat or thin, otherwise the anatomy gets all out of whack and it looks wrong.
Once you have the anatomy down, THEN you can start breaking rules, because you'll know which rules to break. But no, it does have to make sense.

Even some toons have a basic structure. When things look a bit more realistic, it makes them seem believable like you can see it and say, "I can see it happening before my eyes."
I'm not saying DM is terrible, not at all! We're just suggesting comments to help him! We're not trying to put him down, we're trying to help him do something new. He might even like it. He might even see it as an easier way of drawing than what he currently draws now.
I know this is a commission though, so Lobe might have requested it to be like this. If he did, then to each his own I suppose.
