Allow me to introduce you to Thorlin the young half elf disguise of the exiled blue dragon Kalragos.
Thorlin started off as an amalgamation of my various D&D, World of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls characters before evolving into a unique entity in his own setting distinct and separate from his original source material.
The young blue dragon Kalragos was born 110 years ago to the then ruler of the Dragon kingdom and one of his royal consorts. Because he was not born from a clutch lain by the queen the young Kalragos would never be able to ascend to the throne like his half brothers and sisters. But he did not mind, having no desire to shoulder that kind of responsibility or rule over others.
Kalragos was a happy hatchling, curious and friendly. He spent most of his young life within the safety of the castle or out in the hustle and bustle of the royal city. Often escorted around by his tutors and teachers the young Dragon always had a thousand questions about every little thing he saw or was exposed to and his friendly nature endeared him to the citizens of the royal capital. Many of whom he would come to know and consider friends, frequently visiting and or speaking with them whenever he managed to sneak out of the castle for another adventure in the royal city.
Unlike his half-sister the crown princess who was talented but lazy, Kalragos was a physically average youth with a keen mind who took to the education his birth allowed him like a fish takes to water. He studied everything the scholars and tutors within the castle could teach him, he learnt history, magic, combat, writing and the various languages of the many species the dragon kingdom shared its lands with or engaged in diplomacy with.
But beyond that the knowledge thirsty young dragon also studied various crafts from Leather work to crafting magic scrolls to the creation and enchantment of magical items, often befriending and bugging various craftsmen or women within the royal city until they agreed to take him on as an apprentice, rapidly learning all he could before moving on to a new master to begin learning a new skill or craft.
His father took notice of the young dragon’s aptitude and decided to use him as a rival to inspire the crown princess to work harder, to help raise her up into becoming the capable ruler he knew she could be. Kalragos began to attend court alongside his half-sister where his keen mind and friendly personality charmed many of the royals, but unfortunately the good times were not to last.
It happened in a single night. An Evil ancient blood red dragon and his army fell upon the capital, laying siege from the ground and sky. They swept through the defenders far too easily to be mere coincidence; the fighting was fierce, brawling in the streets of the city, on the battlements of the castle, Kalragos rushed to the defence of his half-sister the crown princess but was unlucky enough to come face to face with the ancient evil dragon himself, who apparently sought the princess as a prize.
The young blue dragon was utterly crushed and defeated, no match at all for the older and vastly more powerful ancient Dragon. His body bloodied and beaten his life was only saved at the last minute by the arrival of the king. The clash of the two mighty ancient dragons allowing Kalragos’s own mother to pull his body from the battlefield and carry him towards one of the castle’s magical warp gates which was being used to evacuate the civilians from the battlefield.
Barely conscious Kalragos was thrown through the warp gate by his mother just as the victorious Evil Red Dragon threw his father’s body from the high walls of the castle and down into the nearby courtyard, the last thing he heard before the darkness took him was the evil red dragon’s roar of victory, the last thing he saw was a stream of fire issuing forth from the conquerors mouth, aiming right at the magical gate.
He awoke sometime later washed up upon the shores of a lake utterly alone. The warp gate must have been destroyed while he was in transit, depositing him somewhere other than the evacuation point he was supposed to be. His entire body screaming in protest the injured dragon pulled himself out of the lake and moved into the dense woods surrounding it seeking a place to lay low and recover.
Eventually after he was healed enough to explore the young dragon found that his hiding spot was nearby a small mining town up in the mountains, filled with humans and dwarves and many sorts of creatures. Seeking to take refuge among them and in need of information about where he was Kalragos used magic to transform himself into the appearance of a half elf and took the name Thorlin for his disguise. Though he had nothing to his name, not even garments to wear the newly formed Half-elf found that though weary of strangers the people here were still nice enough to help out somebody obviously down on their luck, allowing him to work off the price of some clothes, and even let him join the local adventurers guild so he could earn some coin for lodging and equipment.
And that is where his journey as Thorlin began.
