Hey folks this is a chaotic doodle dump but i wanted to talk about a few important things here. Prepare for a lotta text
I wanted to touch on some aesthetic ideas for adventuring in the post pulse for those who desire something beyond the agriculture based lives of their towns. so lets get into these doodles
Top left 3 doodles
So Mercenaries are a common occupation in the post pulse Dragonscape, professional soldiers aren't trained like they are these days and in the case of town defense, the town tends to organize militias to protect these towns. Sometimes professional guards are trained but this is uncommon, not rare necessarily, but uncommon. Mercenaries offer a way of getting professional soldiers to do what you wish for any sort of means. With their service given to the highest bidder. The mercs drawn are meant to be representative of NorthWest Pacific US mercenaries, as the tribal region there leaves a strong desire for professional soldiers.
One important thing to note is the the mix of VerdaStal and modern style musketry/archery here. VerdaStal past the first decade is relatively easy to get in a variety of armor styles and can be combined with ScaLeather. So most soldiers have some armor unless they are trying to stay as fast as possible. The merc on the top left also has a top of the line VerdaStal Muzzle Rifle that is built from old modern guns that have long since run out of ammunition. these are a lot like inline muzzleloaders in function and are VERY rare rifles. These are the creme of the crop for Drekir Sharpshooting, these muzzleloaded rifles have great accuracy and when combined with a scope or something like that they can shoot out to 400 yards. Muzzleloaders of all shapes and sizes are present in the Post Pulse DragonScape mostly because VerdaStal, lemme explain
If you want any chance of shooting through well made VerdaStal armor then you need VerdaStal Bullets. And due to the fact their are few working modern styled guns and Brass doesn't work will with VerdaStal, muzzleloading has become common. It's cheap and can sling a heavy, powerful VerdaStal Slug with enough speed to crack through all but the heaviest of armors. Of course the single shot, slow nature of muzzleloaded VerdaStal guns leaves a lot of wiggle room for all other sorts of weapons.
Like i said most folks in the Post Pulse DragonScape that use guns tend to have more traditionally built rifles, muskets (surprisingly rare), blunderbusses, revolvers, pistols, etc. that are made of traditional wood construction and are more like something from the early to mid 19th century than a wierd, tactical inline muzzleloader.
Modern Styled compound bows are also in a high demand as they are the creme of the crop of bows. Same applies to crossbows, the speed and lighweight nature of these arrow launchers however make them a great choice for those who want to remain highly mobile and who want to get a lot of shots off in a fight, but these bows, crossbows and airbows are less effective against armor than their more explosive cousins.
Of course armored knights and medievally clad drekir are still prevalent in the DragonScape as it's cheaper and very few towns, mercs or armies can throw out enough guns to present a huge problem against Melee fighters.
Something not drawn here is magic, magic has a huge influence in post pulse fights with most groups utilizing magic in one way or another to win a fight, either using Breathrowers as living artillery or become massive magical behemoths capable of taking down buildings. or supports who magically heal their buddies through the power of DracoSongs. Magic users are very important in these fights
Going to the Arctic Dreki with the human equipment
Just because black powder is the dominant force for gun technology in the Post Pulse DragonScape doesn't mean that they are the only type. For those who want something with a little more... capacity then human printer guns are still manufactured and used thanks to Human's dropping off massive 3d printers via drones throughout the past decade and the later arrival of humans with more of these things. These guns are rather blocky, made of composite materials and come in a huge variety of configurations. But despite their toy like appearance, they are lightweight and reliable guns that shoot caseless ammunition. The only problem with these guns is that they shoot lead projectiles and not VerdaStal Slugs. So they cannot penetrate armor. Furthermore the caseless ammunition cannot be used in old human guns (AKs and whanot) so they are only really useful against unarmored opponents, but their rapid firing can pin even an armored opponent by the sheer force from a barrage of lead. These guns are often carried more for self defense against the odd, lowly unarmored bandit. But are sometimes taken into big fights by drekir fighters to work as skirmishers, shooting at the lightly armored, fast moving drekir who might be trying to get to valuable Magic users or VerdaStal Sharpshooters and snipers.
Below with the Brazilian Samurai
So in researching for the coming DragonScape Campaing in Brazil, I learned there is a large Japanese Minority that lives in Brazil, and after consulting with a friend and campaign player from Brazil, I decided that it would be cool to add some Brazilian Samurai into the DragonScape, I don't have a whole lot of notes about these folks, i need to draw some more of them for the campaign though and i am excited to draw more and practice samurai armor.
on the far right with the Human
still working on drawing humans, legs are too short but thats what i get for drawing short legged lizards for 4 years hehe
Humans will start to arrive into the dragonscape around 2060 or so not as massive groups of settlers. But first as small or solo groups of explorers dropped into the Draconic American Wilderness to try and figure out whats going on with a more personal view. These explorers will be sent in from the new global superpowers and will often be equipped to be as self sufficient as possible. Backpacks will always have a super efficient solar panel for energy that will power an arsenal of useful electronics and gadgets from handheld radars and gps's to blood analysis devices and language translators for those who don't speak the language of whom they are talking to. and for defense as well as hunting as needed most human explorers have some sort of pneumatic air rifle that they will carry with them. though these aren't terrifically effective against armor it does go a long way towards protection from the draconic wildlife. in addition to all this they have a good bit of food, a massive water reservoir, cooking and purification equipment as well as survival equipment and first aid equipment. These guys tend to not dress too militaristic mostly to not spook the drekir who see them. but that won't be much of a problem because seeing a human for the first time after a decade of surviving in the dragonscape is a blessing for many.
On the bottom pictures, left to right
This picture is of a phone with a dreki and his kid, a successful hunt from the next generation. Yeah thats goin on facebook... or whatever social media that might exist in 2062
In the post pulse DragonScape, those who aren't out adventuring have mostly settled down in various towns or nation states formed from the rubble. living an agricultural lifestyle consisting of farming, hunting, and craftsman ship that is passed down parent to child. there are still some luxuries of the modern day, many towns have computer libraries of old repaired computers, electricity exists in a limited capacity thanks to solar panels and even the internet can be accessed in some towns thanks to human help. so life does get a slight return to normality save the loss of a full modern life. Most dreki will farm, hunt, or make products with hand tools much like the 18th century, passing down their talents via apprenticeship systems. Most dreki-made tools are hand made, even things as complicated as replacement computer parts can be handmade for customers. The only interuption one might fine to the town life is the occasional bandit or Caste Dragon attack at the town walls. But that's what militia and/or mercenaries are for.
finall the house
I am starting to work out ideas for Caste Dragon Architecture. the basic idea is medieval European in style but with a lot more curvature and arc based elements thrown into it. Arcs to my knowledge were an important part of European architecture, especially later on and i think with magical abilities they can do some physics defying stuff for larger buildings. for this i wanted to start with a simple house of a single Orme. Ormer tend to live in their own houses that are only designed for a single person. These houses have a room for coiling and sleeping as well as a room for cooking, dressing, prayer to the Raddir and recreation. The house itself is constructed of wood and a daub made of a mixture of limestone powder and dirt, forming insulation. it is then supported by wood framing which can be magically bent to practically any shape needed for construction, especially curved shapes. These guys have lives just like everyone else. so I hope in the future to flesh out more of the Caste Dragon lifestyle.
For those who made it this far sorry for all the text
