I can tell which is the original and which isn't by checking the traffic light system on the back. If it's original it's 38%. If the new one it's 17%. But I don't mind the new one really, though I prefer people to have a choice of they don't want artificial sweeteners. Instead Barr collapsed to the system, plus sweeteners are much cheaper than sugar. I'm mourning the loss of Ribena atm - that new recipe is HORRIBLE and upsets my stomach.
You wish for GlaxoSmithKline to go back into the drinks business then and are not a fan of Ribena being currently owned by Japanese drink manufacturer; Suntory, of whom it was them who changed their recipe to fit in with the new UK sugar tax and to combat the controversy about Ribena leading to childhood obesity?
The thing is sugar taxes never successfully reduced obesity rates in any country - and I think because sugar is more expensive than sweeteners this has been a sneaky move based on corporate greed. But then Suntory also owns Lucozade and the recipe change for that was an unmitigated disaster. I can't see Ribena doing well from it either. Sales for Irn Bru only went up sharply in the early months of this year because of stockpiling...
Well like you say if it fails they'll just have to try and change the recipe back or find something else that works, save for discontinuing their product. Or our 'Government' who can't leave the disabled well enough alone can finally grow some balls realise this this whole thing is a waste of time. It may take a couple of years though before they decide on anything, if they do.
With A.G. Barr it's hard to know what they're flagship drink is as the company is not named after it, but I think everyone agrees that it's Irn Bru. Though Tizer would be it's second most well known drink. Though they do produce they're own variants on other soft drinks as I often get those for my Dad around his local Costcutter shop.
I'm sure that Fanta and Sprite do have a slight uniqueness to them, but yeah at the end of the day it's your bog standard orange and lemon/lime drinks at the end of the day. Though Coca-Cola didn't need to do too much to those recipes as they are still the same price probably?

Ugh I can relate to this. Not too long ago I moved out myself into a duplex (I believe it's called a flat in England), place was in horrid condition. My bud and his roommate weren't good at keeping it clean. Plus the place was so old I think Jesus Christ built it. Didn't help that it was in a bad neighborhood, here's it's called the ghetto, idk what it's called in the UK lol needless to say, after a little over month I moved back and quit the job I had there
LOL. I was too busy working to put on the pounds. A brother moved in after returning home from the Army. He would buy bulk flour, sugar, rice, and such--then take off for the evening for darts--so the food items just sat. He had studied the building trades, so at least some lighting was swapped out(incandescent to fluorescent) and a motion-sensor-activated outdoor light installed. Plus a bit of roofing.
