The first part of a commission for
Kent Badger
How long had Bearmon been running since Teddy clashed against Bunny? Even the frightened bear cub Digimon had no idea. All he knew was that he had to get away, away from anyone and anything that could trigger his transformation into Teddy. He squeezed the back of his paw where that infernal Digital Hazard Symbol was, like doing so would ensure the hungry beast within him would be restrained.
“This world is better off without me,” he constantly told himself. “Better if I was never existed. How much trouble have I already caused and how much more trouble will I cause in the future? I-I don’t want to harm anyone, so please, just let me find a place where I never have to see anyone else ever again!”
Whenever he wasn’t running, he broke down to weep and when he ran out of tears, he passed out from exhaustion. When he awoke, he started to run all over again. He didn’t stop for food, just grabbing whatever happened to be available as he passed by. More likely than not, he went days on little to no food, leaving his stomach grumbling quite constantly. Hearing it rumble only served as another reminder to his alter ego, Teddy. He was a hulking brute, ravenous and single-minded. After all the Digimon he had eaten, Bearmon felt he had no right to be hungry even as his gut gurgled in constant protest.
One day, as he staggered his way through a forest, he happened upon a vast field. It was filled with tall grassed up to his neck and the only other thing visible in it was a hill in the center. Looking around, Bearmon couldn’t help but feel at ease in the serene setting. “No idea where I am,” he said to himself. “And it’s been ages since I’ve even seen another Digimon or village. Could I have finally found a place I can truly be at peace? A place to live without fearing I might harm anyone? A place I can be completely alone?”
A long absent smile spread across Bearmon’s face and, running, for once out of excitement rather than fear, he hurried into the tall grasses. He stumbled and tripped a few times as he made his way deep into the grass, recalling back to his younger years of playing outside, back in a time when he didn’t have a care in the world.
Stumbling again, Bearmon tumbled through the grass and landed on his back. Looking up at the clear blue sky above and the tall grass in every direction he felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Lifting his paws up, he reached out, trying to grab the sky. It was then he saw the Digital Hazard Symbol hidden under some straps on his right paw. He covered it over with his left paw like it might suddenly disrupt his cerenity, but he let go when he realized that out here, all alone, Teddy would never be able to come out again. Lowering his paws back down, Bearmon adjusted his baseball cap to cover his face and then put his paws behind his head as he tried to get a far more restful sleep than he had in ages. Closing his eyes, he almost succeeded in dozing off when he felt something land on his belly. He ignored it, attempting to focus on rest. A few seconds later, something else dropped onto his tummy. Getting up, Bearmon looked and saw a couple of miniature muffins were the culprits who had disturbed his sleep.
His stomach rumbled seeing food like this for the first time in forever. Too hungry to think about where they came from, Bearmon gobbled them up almost too fast to taste them. A content smile was on his face, though it only eased his hunger a miniscule amount.
“I wonder where those muffins came from,” Bearmon pondered after eating them. “The Digital World has all kinds of unbelievable phenomenons, but raining muffins is a new one to me. There isn’t even a cloud in the sky.”
Scratching his head as he contemplated this, Bearmon noticed another tiny muffin at the edge of his vision in the tall grass. Unable to resist more food, he hurried over to eat it. As he picked it up, he noticed another not too far away. Eating the one in paw and heading to the next one, there was yet another visible in the tall grass and the muffins that had come out of nowhere started to lead him towards the center of the field and the hill.
“This really hit the spot,” Bearmon burped happily as all those small muffins combined managed to fill up his stomach and rid him of his badgering hunger. He gave his belly a content pat feeling like this was his lucky day. “Not sure if I could eat another bite.” He spotted one more muffin a few feet away under a cardboard box that was held up on one end by a stick. “Maybe one more wouldn’t hurt.” Feeling too good to even question it, Bearmon crawled under the box to eat it. He plucked it up and popped it into his maw to munch it up. As he did, a string attached to the stick was pulled. The stick was tugged away and the box dropped down on top of Bearmon.
“Hooray!” a bunch of voices cheered all of a sudden. “We got him! We got him!”
“I get the feeling I should feel pretty dumb about now,” commented Bearmon as he lifted up the box to find it wasn’t weighed down by anything at all. All around him, were dozens of Terriermon, very fat ones at that, each so round and doughy they looked more likely to roll around than to hop. Still, the fact that they had managed to stay hidden all this time was quite an accomplishment.
“We didn’t get him, ya mooks,” complained one of the fatty Terriermon, though this one was black with a red markings instead of the cream white-hued fur with green markings. He also had an impish look on his face that made him look far more mischievous than the others. “He got out cause someone forgot to put something heavy on the box.”
“But Impy,” another Terriermon replied in a sad tone. This one was different too, resembling a plushie overly full of cotton. “If we did that he’d be trapped.”
“Duh, Bunzae,” Impy replied. “That’s the idea of a trap! What good is a trap if the trapee can get out of it. Understand?”
“Yes and it doesn’t seem very nice for the trapee,” commented Bunzae.
“Oh, no, they love it in there,” lied Impy. “Here, let me show you.” He walked over to Bearmon who was couldn’t help feeling amused at what he was watching play out. “Hey, mac, move aside, would ya.”
“Um, okay,” agreed Bearmon as he got up and watched Impy go under the box.
“See,” he spoke, his voice muffled by the box. “I’m having a blast down here. Lots of fun and stuff. And that’s when put something heavy on the box. So they can keep having fun in it.”
“Like this?” asked the Terriermon as they dogpiled on the box, covering it with their ton of bulk.
“Hey!” snapped Impy. “What do ya mooks think you’re doing? I can’t get out now!” Angrily, he pounded on the box.
“See,” pointed out Bunzae. “I told you it wasn’t very nice.”
“Yeah, well, then let me out,” cried Impy as he pushed against the walls of the box. Being made of cardboard it was only so strong, not nearly enough to support all the Terriermon on it. Impy cried out desperately, but it was already too late. The box collapsed and all the Terriermon plopped down on top of Impy.
“Bunny pile!” they cheered and giggled.
“Uh…” stared Bearmon, a bit confused by what just happened. “So, where exactly am I?”
“You’re at the Big Bunny Burrow!” answered the Terriermon.
“Where all the big, fatty buns live.”
“Glad to have you!”
“Gargomon is making us lunch right now. Please join us!”
“Please do,” added Bunzae. “It would make us ever so happy if you would.” Despite saying that, his voice couldn’t get rid of that somber tone.
“I’d really love to,” Bearmon answered as he gripped the back of his right paw. “But I can’t. I’ve got to get away from everyone for your safety. You all seem really nice and I don’t want to cause you any trouble.”
“Well, I reckon you don’t look like much trouble ta me,” a gruff voice with western accent said from the entrance to the burrow. Bearmon looked and saw the biggest bunny yet, a Gargomon with the jolliest belly one could imagine. Squeezing his butt out of the burrow, he waddled over to Bearmon and picked him up. “I can’t imagine you causing more trouble than the lot of my buns typically can. Impy’s a pretty big troublemaker, but he’s just as much a bun as the rest of us.” He looked around and scratched his head. “Speaking of the imp, where did he get to?”
“Under here,” groaned Impy from the bottom of the bunny pile.
“Oh, boy,” smiled Gargomon. “Been a spell since I’ve been able to join in on a big ole bunny pile. Look out everyone! Here I come!”
Stomping towards the bunny pile, Gargomon leapt onto it. The Terriermon quickly fled as he did, save for Impy who was squished flat from the earth-shaking booty flop. Bearmon knew he should have been concerned for the Terriermon, but the situation was so comical that he couldn’t help chuckle. All the Terriermon were laughing too so he was certain that he had to be okay.
“Oh, what a heavy burden to bear,” rhymed a sad-sounding Bunzae. “Squashed beneath a derriere.”
“Shut up,” snapped Impy to Bunzae as he poked his head out beneath Gargomon’s glutes. “Just, shut up.”
“What exactly am I witnessing?” snickered Bearmon starting to forget his problems at least for the moment.
“We’re just playing,” answered the Terriermon.
“It’s what we do here at the Big Bunny Burrow,” added another as they Terriermon tried to huggle him but they were so big and there was not a lot of Bearmon for them to all share.
“We were about ta have some grub,” smiled Gargomon. “What d’ya say pardner, wanna join us?”
“It’d be nice to, but I can’t,” he answered. “I’m a serious threat to you all. If the Digital Hazard Mark I possess activates I would turn into my alter ego and eat you all.”
“Is that all?” laughed Gargmon. “It wouldn’t be the first time these buns have been eaten and probably won’t be the last. They are quite the eaters themselves too.”
“I’m serious,” Bearmon replied, trying his best to make them all understand. “My alter ego, Teddy is nothing to make light of. He managed to wipe out a big city not too long ago. He could flatten your entire burrow under his butt just like Gargomon did to that one Terriermon.”
“And still is,” Impy said hoping Gargomon would take the hint.
“Well, what brings out this alter ego of yours?” asked Gargomon.
“Calling me, ‘Teddy,’” answered Bearmon finding it hard to say the name himself. “I can do my best to resist, but if I’m pushed too much into a corner he’ll break free. After that, only a bear hug can return me to normal.”
“If that’s all then you’ll be just fine with us here,” smiled Gargomon. “You can have all the hugs you could ever hope for here and I’ll make sure none of the buns here will call you that either. Hear that, y’all? We got another word to add to our list of forbidden words.”
“You mean besides those words that only I use?” grumbled Impy.
“Well, you were the reason we needed the list in the first place,” commented Bunzae.
“So, if we do that, can you stay?” asked Gargomon with hope in his eyes and all the Terriermon were eager for him to join them too.
“I guess I could at least give it a try,” Bearmon agreed and started to sound choked up. “Because… I don’t really want to end up alone if I can help it. If this place is as peaceful as it feels then I might have finally found a place I can live without fear of Teddy. Plus, I’m interested in what you’re cooking. Whatever it is, I can smell it from here.”
“You’re in for a treat when we go to eat,” smiled Gargomon. “But first, it looks like our new friend Bearmon could use a bath.
“Uh, excuse me?” questioned the bear cub. “Did I hear you right? A bath?”
“You are reeking something fierce,” Gargomon told him pinching his nose. “If that other you doesn’t get us, your stink’ll do us in. Now let’s go get you washed.”
“Ok, fine,” agreed Bearmon as Gargomon carried him into his home and towards his bathroom. As he saw the huge tub waiting for him, he expected to be let go, but Gargomon wiggled his butt out of his pants and jumped in with him, splashing out a lot of the water in the process. Gargomon then playfully dunked Bearmon under the water. “Is all this really necessary?” questioned Bearmon as he surfaced again.
“No, but it’s more fun this way,” he smiled. “Right everyone?”
“Yeah!” the Terriermon agreed, all right behind them. They climbed into the tub to join Bearmon and Gargomon. Even Impy came in, finally freed after Gargomon took his pants off. After pulling off Gargomon’s pants that were blanketed on top of him he climbed into the tub with the rest. The only one that didn’t come in was Bunzae.
“Sorry,” apologized Bunzae as he kept out of splash range. “Dry clean only.”
The Terriermon quickly started to grab brushes and soap before gathering around Bearmon to scrub and clean him. They snickered, enjoying the game they were making out of it and Bearmon couldn’t help feeling amused by it too. “You sure are a silly lot.”
“Looks like you’re catching on quickly,” Gargomon told him. “You’re welcomed to stay with us long as you want. We’ll make sure you’re taken care of and nothing bad happens.”
“I guess… maybe I could… for a little while anyway,” Bearmon finally decided, much to the cheers of the Terriermon.
“That’s the spirit,” Gargomon cheered as well and lifted up all his bunny buds in his arms and splashed down with them in the water once more.
Only a short distance south of where Bearmon and the Big Bunny Burrow was, an Airdramon flew across the sky, ferrying a number of Digimon over the land. Among the Digimon, a certain Goblimon was riding near its tail. Beside him was a Gaomon.
“So, you’re sure that he was headed in this direction?” the Gaomon asked the Goblimon.
“After what he did in Romsburg I’ve been tracking him down,” the Goblimon replied with a greedy look on his face. “First, he cleared out all those pesky Gazimon for me so I could loot the town of Beans and then I got to pillage one of the biggest cities in the Digital World. I only wish I had arrived sooner so I could have stolen more stuff during the chaos. Well, wherever he ends up next I’ll be ready with my looting bag. Plus, having an underling will help me haul more stuff means we can get twice as much. Just remember, you get to keep ten percent of what you grab.”
“Fine,” agreed Gaomon, well aware that this was the third time he had cut his share, but the blue dog Digimon didn’t mind in the least. He wasn’t in this for any ill gotten gains. He was doing this to stop Teddy once and for all, as was the orders given to him by the Digital Sovereign.
“The curse of the Digital Hazard Symbol that Bearmon possesses is growing too wild,” Gaomon recalled the Digital Sovereign saying when he was summoned to his audience chamber. “It must be removed at once or it might fully manifest into an unstoppable beast that will destroy our world and many others like it.”
“Before that happens,” swore Gaomon as he clenched his gloved fists tightly. “I will put an end to it. I will destroy the Bearmon if need be.”
“I would like to try and avoid such a thing if it can be helped,” he continued to speak. “He too is a victim in this. Fortunately, I have managed to manifest a code that should be able to nullify and erase his DH mark. Simply having him absorb it should be enough to put an end to this. Just be aware that time is a factor. Should he grow much stronger, I fear only his deletion will win us the day.”
“I will not fail you,” vowed Gaomon.
“Then, please, hurry,” the Digital Sovereign spoke as he floated a box with the code in it to him. “The best I can tell you is that his last known whereabouts was at Romsburg. Beyond that, you will have to track him down.”
“I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure the peace of the Digital World,” he nodded. “What should my code name be for this mission?”
“Uh… a code name?” asked the Digital Sovereign.
“I’m going to have to be covert so one is clearly required,” he explained. “I was thinking… maybe… ‘G.’”
“V-Very well,” agreed the Digital Sovereign. “Go now… G. Fulfill this mission for me.”
“I will at once,” he promised, bowing his head. “No matter what!”
“No matter what,” G mumbled to himself as he peeked inside the box that had been by his side ever since he had received it. He gazed at the blue orb of code hidden within, waiting to be used.
In the time since he had started his search, he had failed to get any leads. Any Digimon who had witnessed Teddy were still too shaken up to recall anything about it and those that weren’t had very little to offer in where he had disappeared to afterwards. G’s break finally came when he encountered Goblimon seeking out Bearmon for his own gain. With no other options available to him, G joined up with him to complete his goal. “Even if I must don the guise of a lowly thief, I will see my mission through.”
“You’re mumbling to yourself again,” Goblimon told G. “And you are looking at that box of yours again. What’s in it?” He leaned in to sniff it. “It’s some kind of treasure, isn’t it? My nose can whiff treasure a mile away.”
“It isn’t anything of the sort,” replied Gaomon shutting the box tight. “Call it insurance. If Bearmon is truly as dangerous as I’ve heard then we’ll want something powerful enough to stop him. After all, all our looting will be pointless if we end up dead in the process.”
“Then it’s some powerful weapon,” Goblimon assumed. “Stuff like that can be considered a treasure too, you know.”
“I suppose so,” he agreed. “But this treasure might be the only thing that’ll keep us safe from Bearmon going berserk, the only thing that can defeat him.”
“Is that so?” grinned a Gazimon quietly as he had overheard everything that the two of them had been discussing. “A treasure capable of dealing with Bearmon. Sounds like just what I need. Seems like I will finally get my revenge.”
The Gazimon in question was known as Gai. He was a resident of Beans that had been away when Bearmon had arrived and missed out on the ensuing voring he caused. Already, he had attempted to get back at him once and failed, but that failure had only made him more determined than ever. As he attempted to track him down once more, he had begun following Gaomon and Goblimon when he overheard them talking about Bearmon.
“You sure I can’t take a little peek?” wondered Goblimon, unable to resist the temptation. “I’m your boss so you should show me a little gratitude.”
Gaomon sighed, seeing no other way to get him from hovering over him with his greedy curiosity. “Fine, but just one look and no touching.”
“I promise,” he answered, though Gaomon didn’t have much faith in his words. Carefully, he opened the box and revealed a sphere of code nestled comfortably in the box. “See. This is it. Happy now?”
“Oh hoh, that certainly does look valuable,” he agreed. “Mind sharing where a rogue like you managed to purloin it?”
“As a matter of fact, I do,” Gaomon answered as he shut the box, but as he did, a hand quickly swiped it from him. “What the?!?”
“Thanks for this!” shouted Gai as he maneuvered his way to the front end of Airdramon. “I’ll be sure to put it to good use!”
“Nothing more disgraceful for a thief than to have their treasure stolen,” commented Goblimon. “Just glad it wasn’t any of mine.”
Gaomon gave a sharp glare at Goblimon before he got up and chased down Gai who had arrived on Airdramon’s back. “I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but it was very foolish to try and rob someone while so high up in the air. You’ve got nowhere to run now and I’ve been in need of something to take my stress out on.”
“I heard your conversation with that Goblimon,” explained Gai. “This thing in here can put a stop to that out of control Bearmon, right? Well, this is just the thing I need for my revenge so it’s better with me than anyone else.”
“I don’t care what your reasons are,” snapped G. “That code is vital to my mission and I will eliminate anyone who gets in my way.”
“Go ahead and try then,” cackled Gai as he leapt from Airdramon.
“Hey!” cried Airdramon as he saw Gai jump off him. “You didn’t pay your fare yet!”
Gaomon looked over the edge and saw him grab onto a tall tree in the middle of the forest. He then vanished under the leaves to make his escape. Squeezing his paws tightly in his gloves, G leapt out too, grabbing onto another tree as he gave chase.
“Not another one!” groaned Airdramon. “I gotta start charging before taking off.”
“Looks like I’m out a partner,” commented Goblimon as he saw the whole thing. “Oh, well. More treasure for me.”
“Where did he go?” questioned G as he made his way to the lowest branch on the tree he was on and then leapt to the forest floor. He looked around frantically, certain that the Gazimon was still close by. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the light of the code illuminate the dark forest and he rushed over. “Nononononono!!!” he cried fearing the worst was happening and to his dismay, he arrived just in time to see Gai absorb the code into his body and drop the now empty box on the ground.
“There we go,” smiled Gai. “I merged the code into my body so now there’s no way that Bearmon will be able to get the best of me. I’ll destroy him for sure this time and get my revenge.”
“Y-You fool,” snarled Gaomon with great anger in his eyes. “You absorbed that code with no knowledge of how it works. Do you realize what you have done?!?”
“I did what I had to in order to get my revenge,” he stated. “And it is too late for you to do anything about it. The code is a part of me now.”
“I know,” admitted Gaomon as he coldly approached Gai. “Which is why I have no choice, but to take it back the only way I can.”
“You’re gonna delete me?” laughed Gai. “Go ahead and try. You’re just some low-class thief without his toy.”
“Unfortunately for you,” admitted G. “That was not the truth. I’m not a thief and that code is not the weapon you think it is.” In a flash, Gaomon shot forward and punched Gai in the gut. The Gazimon wailed in pain as he was smashed into a tree. It was enough to prove that the Gaomon wasn't bluffing. Without even enough time to recover, Gaomon was already poised and ready to attack again. “It’s nothing personal,” G told him before striking with another powerful punch that made Gai cry out before going silent as his body burst into data from the lethal blow. “But I’ve got a job to do.”
Closing his eyes, G began to absorb Gai’s data to draw the code into his body. As he did, he also took in trace remains of what also resided within Gai, including the Belly Buddy code and bits of the Digital Hazard power he had obtained from his prior confrontation with Bearmon, however, G was unaware of any of this and merely turned in the direction Airdramon had been headed.
“No telling how much that Gazimon cost me in time or how I’ll be able to use the code to stop Teddy now,” G thought to himself. “Hopefully, I’ll figure something out before he strikes again.”
It was the next day when Gaomon made his way out of the forest and reached the field with the Big Bunny Burrow in the center of it. “Looks like I was fortunate enough to find something out in the middle of nowhere,” stated G as he made his way through the tall grass to the burrow. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to get on track to finding Bearmon once more.”
Reaching the front of the burrow, he was shocked to find a bunch of obese Terriermon gathered around and playing. When they spotted Gaomon, they quickly hurried over to greet him. “Oh, wow!” one cheered. “Looks like we’ve got another visitor.”
“Two in a row,” another gasped. “That’s awesome!”
“This one’s a doggy!” cheered a third one. “He’s so cute! Look at the floppy ears.”
“Uh, hello,” greeted Gaomon. “Um, my name is, G. I’m just passing through and was hoping if I could get some directions to the nearest town.”
“You can’t go when you’ve just got here!”
“Yeah! Come on and play with us!”
“You must stay for some of Gargomon’s cooking too!”
“I’m sorry, but I really don’t have the time,” G told them, but their excitement drowned out his words. “I am in the middle of something important and I can’t afford to waste time.”
“Hey, what’s with all the noise out here?” asked Bearmon as he made his way outside. He was busy munching a donut and looked quite stuffed after just a single day’s stay at the burrow. “Oh, we have a visitor?”
“It-It’s him!” realized Gaomon as he saw Bearmon come out the front door. “I found him. Now’s my chance… but I can’t do anything with all these Terriermon around.”
“Come on guys,” chuckled Bearmon as he tried to keep the Terriermon from crowding around G. “I’m not sure everyone loves snuggling fatty bunnies as much as all of you do. Plus I’m sure he’d like some room to breathe.”
“Oh, alright,” the agreed, sounding a bit disappointed.
“Uh, thanks for that,” G spoke to Bearmon. “My name’s G.”
“No prob, G,” smiled Bearmon. “I’m Bearmon. What brings you all the way out here?”
“You actually,” G answered to Bearmon’s surprise. “Mind if we go somewhere to talk… alone?”
“Sure,” nodded Bearmon, not even taking a moment to think about it. “We can talk on the other side of the burrow.”
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” questioned Bunzae.
“Why wouldn’t it be?” Bearmon asked back.
“Do you even know who this G guy is?” wondered Impy.
“No. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen him,” he admitted. “But he seems like a nice guy.”
“That’s what worries me,” commented Impy. “A devious guy you know he’s gonna pull a fast one on ya, but a nice guy, ya can never really tell.”
“He might be someone who is upset because of… you know… your other self,” worried Bunzae.
“If he is then it is even more important that I face him,” Bearmon stated. “I cannot run away from him. All I can do is hope for the best. So, wish me luck.” Bearmon turned to G and waved him over. “Follow me.”
“I’m worried,” Monzae said sounding more depressed than usual.
“For once, I agree with you,” said Impy as they watched the two walk around to the other end of the burrow.
“So, what did you want to talk to me about?” asked Bearmon to G once they were certain nobody was listening to them.
“I’m going to come clean from the start and tell you that I am here about that other personality you possess. The other you that is the bane of the Digital World.”
“I had a feeling you were,” answered Bearmon. “I know he’s trouble and I’m powerless to stop him when he comes out. He’s caused so much damage, especially in Romsburg. If he’s hurt you or anyone you care about, I can only accept whatever punishment you have in store for me.”
“Tell me,” questioned Gaomon. “How do you feel about it? Do you enjoy the destruction that he brings about?”
“Are you kidding?!?” cried Bearmon. “I hate it. I don’t want to hurt anyone. If there was some way to be rid my Digital Hazard Mark I’d be the happiest I’ve ever been.”
Gaomon looked closely at Bearmon’s expression. The sadness in his eyes was real. He was suffering just as much as anyone else from Teddy’s rampages. Tilting his head down, G spoke some more. “I see. You really are a victim in all this as well. Then I will have to help you.”
“Help me?” gasped Bearmon. “You mean, you can cure me so I can be free of Teddy?”
“I just might,” answered G. “But whatever happens, I’m going to need you to trust me. Do we have a deal?” As he waited for Bearmon’s response, his mind was racing. “I had originally planned to just give him the code to nullify his DH Mark, but it’s in me now. Hopefully, coming in contact with him might allow me to still do something.”
G extended his gloved paw for Bearmon to shake and though he was hesitant at first, he smiled and accepted. “Deal.”
As they made contact with one another, they could feel something strange between them. It was like some magnetic force pulling them together, but the force coming from Bearmon was stronger. Gaomon held his paws out in front of him to hold him back from colliding with Bearmon’s gut, but rather than hit and both end up on the floor, his arms vanished into the bear cub’s belly. With each second to pass, a bit more of his arms was sinking in and it was clear the rest of him was going to be pulled in before long.
“Wh-What’s going on?!?” cried Bearmon fearfully.
“Something’s wrong?” realized G as he stated the obvious. “Was it cause of that Gazimon? Something else inside him must have mixed with the code and changed it.”
With all his might, Gaomon fought against being absorbed into Bearmon and miraculously enough, he overpowered it and broke free. He dropped to the floor, exhausted from the struggle, but more concerned than before.
“I’m so sorry!” cried Bearmon. “I didn’t do anything. I swear! Oh, I must be getting worse. What if that happens to my new bunny buds. I can’t stay here any longer. I have to get away from everyone.”
While Bearmon freaked, G contemplated his situation. “Ugh, this is a disaster. The code isn’t working the way it’s supposed to be. In a way it was like Bearmon and I are magnetized with opposite polarities so we attract one another to try and absorb the other. This makes things more problematic. I cannot stop Teddy without doing away with Bearmon now and I can’t seem to come into contact with him either or risk being absorbed. Things really have become a mess, but there must be a way that I can still make this work. The answer lies in how can I make it so that I absorb Bearmon and not the other way around.” Scratching his head as he tried to come up with a solution and an idea hit him when he saw Bearmon’s big, doughy gut. “Perhaps it is simply the mass ratio. If I can increase my mass to be greater than Bearmon’s or Teddy’s I should be able to overpower and absorb them into my body, but how? How can I increase my mass when there is no telling when Teddy might strike again?”
Gaomon pondered this for a moment as Bearmon waited worriedly for an answer. Before either of them could say anything, Gargomon came around back. “Hey, y’all! I got the grub ready. Best hurry on back before my buns gobble it up.”
“Oh,” drooled Bearmon upon hearing that. “We’ll be right there in a moment.” He looked at G still thinking. “I’m sorry for what happened, but let’s get something to eat and then I’m sure we’ll feel much better. I just gotta warn ya that Gargomon’s food will pack on the pounds like nobody’s business.”
“Pack on pounds?” pondered G as he heard this and looked at Bearmon’s pudgy frame. He also recalled how fat the Terriermon were and from a distance he could tell that Gargomon was quite overweight too. “Maybe there is a way.”
“A way?” asked Bearmon. “A way to what?”
“A way to rid you of your other self,” explained G. “But for it to work, you are going to follow my instructions precisely.”
“Yes! Of course!” answered Bearmon after hearing this. “I’ll do anything. What is it?”
“In order to defeat your other self you must become stronger than it. That means a strict training regiment is in order. You must diet and exercise to strengthen your body to become strong enough to have the might needed to prevent your other side from emerging.”
“Then all I have to do is work out and I won’t be a danger to anyone,” Bearmon breathed a sigh of relief.
“It is only something we can attempt to see if it’ll work, but I have found that training one’s body can help one achieve more than just big muscles.”
“Then let’s get started!” cheered Bearon before his gut grumbled. “Right after lunch.”
“Just one serving,” Gaomon told him. “Your diet starts now.”
“O-Only one?!?” cried Bearmon, his stomach roaring angrily at Gaomon’s instruction. “But it’s too yummy to have only one.”
“We could always skip the diet,” stated G, planning to coax him into it with guilt. “But only if you wish to put all your bunny friends in danger.”
“F-For my bunny friends,” sniffled Bearmon as he wiped the tears from his eyes, conflicted over all the new friends who had welcomed him into their burrow as well as all the delicious food he yearned to eat. He didn’t want to be stuck with so little, especially when he’d be surrounded by so many buns eating like it was going out of style. “For my bunny friends I will diet!”
“That’s the dedication I like to hear,” Gaomon praised him before thinking. “But to ensure this will work not only will he have to drop mass, but I’ll need to put on as much as I possibly can too. Indulging myself is not something I typically enjoy doing, but, for the sake of the Digital World, I’ll do what I must.”
Kent BadgerHow long had Bearmon been running since Teddy clashed against Bunny?
