The Casria Plant: Info and Story
Another upload. Just some trivia for the Casria plant which exists in the comic world and is the ingredient for my fursona's hair color that came up for the most recent Asked question.
The Casria plant is one of the most important resources to Red Wolves; it provides them with food, dye, and is told as the reason for the Red Wolves' migration to their home on the island of Setta, as it would come to be known as. In addition, when the then Sraik king, Evan, called for a more unified Sraik, ~139 years ago (comic time), and asked the different wolf tribes to send ambassadors and items of cultural significance; it was the Casria plant that the Red Wolves brought with them to the capital.
The plant is found seemingly only on the island and a small portion of the mainland, generally found closer to the seaside. The plant stays lower to the ground, often busheling up and intertwining. They are tiny, yet sturdy; able to hold it's berries with little drooping. A perennial, budding and blooming usually during the springtime, with berries ready around mid summer.
Its flowers are useful in making dyes, the leaves can be used in part to make tea, and the berries can be eaten as is or made into a sweet wine.
As mentioned, the flower is told in the tale of how the Red Wolves came to live on the island they currently do, here is that story:
Long ago the Red Wolves were just a tiny tribe along the south coast of what would become the country of Sraik. Content for the most part as a whole, their tribe was led by a wolf named Setta and his loving wife Casria. The tribe lived day to day along the coast in peace. Casria was said to have been walking along the beach one day and happened upon a flower that seemed to have been washed up on the shore. It's purple petals captivated her and the lone berry it had on it sparkled a gorgeous indigo. She quickly took it home to show to her mate and the two removed the seeds then planted them. The actual fruit of the berry, which Casria enjoyed alone, she said to be the sweetest thing she had ever eaten and eagerly awaited more. Soon the plant germinated and began to grow its flower buds; however, Casria would not see the flower bloom as shortly afterwards an unknown illness took her. Stricken with grief, Setta feel into despair; his life now without meaning. As he wallowed in anguish, he noticed the flower once again, its bud had opened up and revealed those vibrant purple petals. Setta became inspired by the plant, wanting to know its true origin he made plans to set out to sea. Setting out upon a tiny ship, barely big enough for him and began his search. He discovered the many small islands that existed, but none had the flower on them. After weeks of searching, he felt it was nearly time to return when he noticed the largest mass of land he had seen thus far. Along the coast there were beds upon beds of shimmering purple and indigo and he quickly made his way there. Coming upon the shore he was greeted by the flowers and the berries many of them had produced. He fell to his knees beside them and picked a single berry from one then ate it. Indeed as Casria had said, it's immense sweetness washed over him and he wept. He wept for the longest while, his search now over. As he looked around he saw not only the flowers but an abundance of resources on the island. Quickly he made his way back to the tribe to inform them, and after some convincing the whole tribe made their way to the island. The new island would provide them with everything they had previously and more. The Red Wolves would prosper on this island, quickly building and advancing more than any time before. Setta proclaimed the flower to be named after his love, and their new home as well. Casria would eventually become their capital city and the Casria plant would become their most defining feature as a tribe.
(I'm sure there's more I could say about the plant but I'll come back to it if need be. I based the flower design off my favorite flower.)
Anyways, enjoy!
Constructive criticism and comments are always appreciated! :3
