"Fifteen, sixteen..."
Alice pulled herself up the pull-up bar, counting each pull-up in a quiet tone. She felt sweat starting to build up on her back, surely soon to drench her whole shirt. She also felt drops of sweat on her forehead.
"Seventeen, eighteen..."
She hung from the bar and let go of it with one hand. She then used that hand's top part to wipe sweat off her forehead, then grabbed onto the bar properly and continue the excersise.
It was like... Five days since she arrived here? She met up with Francine, Terry and Theo. She was yet to meet remaining two members of their team.
She got along with Francine and Terry quite well - which was no suprise since she knew Francine already, and Terry was really nice and polite. But Theo... Oh boy, their relationship was going to be a bumpy ride.
She frowned, recalling their conversation from three days ago. She was sitting on the couch in the lounge room, watching evening TV news, while he sat himself next to the table and tinkered with one of his gizmos.
At one moment, he stopped and looked over to her.
"Yoo're frae australia, reit?" he asked.
She noded.
"Yep, I'm a dinkum Aussie, yessir."
He chuckled quietly in response.
"Ye must hae a hin' ur tois tae say abit yer ancestur, eh?"
She slowly turned her head towards him.
"Sorry?"
"Dornt play glaikit. A' fowk knows whit kin' ay fowk ended up thaur in the beginnin'."
"My great-great grandfather was a doctor, ya bloody drongo!" she snarled.
He rised his hands in defensive gesture.
"Now, nae need to gie radge."
"You make yourself up to be such a smartass, but in reality you are just a prejudiced asshole." she muttered. "Whacker." she turned her head back to the TV.
"Whit did ye jist caa me?"
She gritted her teeth and started to poorly mimic his accent:
"Ah called ye an idiot, lad. Dickhead, bloody moron." she looked at him again.
He was angry. Good.
"Go look into the fridge, fatass. Maybe you'll find a 'bottle of scrumpeh' and something to dig in."
He growled quietly and stood up, then started to quickly gather his stuff.
"Feckin' huir." he muttered before leaving the room.
She snapped out of the memory and realized, that she's been hanging from the bar for a good while now. She huffed and pulled herself up again.
"Fuckin' asswipe... Twenty one... Who the hell he think he is?... Twenty two! Twenty three! Twenty four..."
She felt sweat on her back and grunted quietly.
