The old opera of Frankfurt. Bombed out in WW2 it was a hollow ruin for almost 4 decades. In the early 1980s it was resurrectet as a concert hall and conference center.

I think it was a mix between having no idea how to use it after reconstruction and having no money fior reconstruction. The former mayor Rudi Arndt suggestet jokingly to "just blow the goddamn thing up" in the 1970s, which gave him the nickname "Dynamite-Rudi".
